I agree entirely about the importance of backups being simple and automatic. Where I disagree is with the idea that remote backups are more difficult than local backups. Even ignoring all the people with only one computer at home, for whom

I hope I'm wrong but it sounds suspiciously like all your backups are in one physical location. You may well be protected against an individual drive failing but what about a more calamitous event such as a fire or flooding?

There are two houses of Parliament in the UK - the Lords and the Commons. Only the Commons is made up of our elected representatives. The country is broken down into 646 constituencies and each elects their own member of parliament (MP).

I recall that one of the reasons frequently given for returning to the moon is that it is "rich" in Helium-3 (the commonest isotope is Helium-4) and it can be used in nuclear fusion[1]. If wikipedia is to be believed "rich" is relative here

25? Is that a typo or have I missed something? Anyway, what's wrong with using numbers? Upper and lowercase? Unicode?

I find it interesting that so many of the comments here are pro April Fools stories and yet on the site as a whole April Fools stories seem to be quickly flagged and killed.

That's a nice find. Looks like the concept is similar to cloudkick but for human workers. They also list their "worker channels" should you want to go straight to the source.

Would it not be more correct to say they are paying the publisher to tell us about this?

Actually it's not. At least not directly. I think this is the post you're referring to: http://blog.cubeofm.com/how-to-become-rich-even-if-nobody-is...

I can certainly agree with that. Not understanding that a choice can turn out well despite being made for bad reasons and vice versa is a frequent source of annoyance for me in others and, if I'm honest, myself. Thanks for the follow up.

My comment was in response to having read the linked post. Having just finished reading it for a second time I'm still not clear. Eliezer does say, "Nobody believes the market is really "efficient" [...] but still, the market does not leav

Wouldn't this only hold true in perfectly efficient markets? It also seems to assume that every market participant is under the same influences. I don't care how well my holdings are doing at the end of an accounting year but a fund manag

At least with one centralised system there will be a definitive log of who has accessed what and when they accessed it. Hopefully it will add some accountability. It sure beats post-it notes.

I can understand the use of a rat and worms as they're traditional experimental models but why use turtles?

Text link ads might be one way to go. Perfectly legal but if google detects it then it's goodbye pagerank. Same for sponsored blog posts. Even if you do take on paid for links and google doesn't realise I doubt you're going to make very m

Although I agree with you on the SEO some of the suggestions are good ideas in terms of user experience, i.e. information rich title tags.

There is a saying that, "you can travel across the land or live off the land but not both." You may be able to improve your chances over the short term by concentrating on finding food but if you want to survive long term your best chance m

IANAL but I don't think that applies here. He links to what is essentially a spam submission in the first paragraph so it seems reasonable to expect the other submissions will also be available.

Without knowing who this other group is the fact that they started the process in 2008 and still hasn't finished does not mean that Virgin would be unable to complete it in 6 months. I got my figures from http://www.fool.co.uk/news/investi

I don't know how true this is (I suspect at least part of that will be money you need to have on hand rather than spend as such) but I do know that Virgin have just bought an existing bank because it was quicker and easier than starting fro

I retrieved the comment histories of the top 10 users without a single glitch. I don't follow any particular users so don't view the comments pages all that often so can only comment on this occasion but no problems encountered this time.

Thanks for the follow up. I do remember seeing these. They're more expensive but do look really quite polished. Certainly more attractive to look at than the tangle of wires I have hooked up to an arduino at home.
