The phrase make good sense. Knowing why the fence was put up in the first place is key. Then "We've always done it this way." is usually defeated with a more appropriate reason. Unless the same type of fences you see are reasonably indicati

I find it hard to believe that anyone here takes this crap seriously. If you're making good progress as a developer, it can be very taxing on the mind and body. Do I really need to point this out here??

I'd heard the same about the 15 minute limit. I've experimented with more and less and have settled on 13 minutes, which works well for me, and I'm sure it varies among everyone. If I'm really sleepy (usually from lack of sleep), even a 5

Not a direct coorelation, but there is certainly a dependence on being capable in mathematics. A math wizard does not make a good programmer, but one cannot be hopelessly average in math and be a talented programmer.

Perhaps you are being too hard on yourself. The majority (more than half) of the well known programmers truly are "superstars". It's all very subjective, though. Where is the standard for complexity or even cleverness? How is it different t

Using LuaJIT with minimal FFI C code to optimize, seems to be the best way forward in maximizing both performance and maintainability. What would be really interesting is to see someone highlight specific cases where this approach ultimatel

He lived long enough into the era where his speech or interview could have been filmed. I couldn't find anything on YouTube; perhaps he was too frail by the 1930's to be doing such things. I like finding these old film clips featuring perfo

No, no, no. Psychopathy in a leader has a net effect toward organizational mediocrity, at best. Start observing in the real world and this becomes obvious.

It's not as simple as you would like to believe. Lacking social skills and having self-defeating attitudes are much more likely to keep them poor, assuming they are not mentally deficient, than a simple pursuit of leisure over work. Lots of

Yes, don't feel pressured by all these comments saying "Why not learn both? They're not that different anyway." You're probably better off semi-mastering one before you focus on the other. There's a lot more to a language with its idiosyn

The key is that you've got to have a driving desire to improve any project, else it's very likely that you will give up when you get to the complicated and messy bits. Presumably, you use Python based tools whenever it makes sense. If not

After working through a few of my own Haskell projects, I eventually found the type system disappointing. A better design would have made it even more sophisticated and harder to learn, IMO. That's the price to pay for being purely functi
