What about something like Kerbal Space Program? Orbital mechanics can get pretty dry, but a game like that can allow us to “play” with concepts and build intuition that we would otherwise have to do problem sets ad nauseum.

I’m a really big fan of that company (interviewing.io), the platform, and the studies they do. They have a very interesting blog.

I can understand why one would think this. That assumption is part of the reason I shared the story. If that were true here, the A&T students would have had the experience of the Duke/UNC group.

Check out the Dan Luu blog linked in the first paragraph of the article [1]. He tackles exactly this and does a really good job at explaining it and citing sources. I might butcher this, but there’s an excellent part in there where he takes

You’re making a wild guess with no citation to any studies, but I’ll just go with it. I’d hazard a guess that the homogeneity you’re trying to reference is not limited to _racial_ or _gender_ homogeneity.

I think you’ve ignored the context of the article. He says that to mean he doesn’t look like he’s going to start the next Facebook or Twitter to VCs, because he is black. They will not entertain the idea that he COULD BE the next Mark Zucke

This is resolved by going somewhere within an hour of the office location. It’s a good idea, but not everyone wants to be forced into traveling for work.

It doesn't matter if you game or not. AMD is crushing Intel on every dimension w.r.t. consumer and HEDT CPUs. Just look up the benchmarks.

I believe you're being unfair. Extending the chords is fair and so is voicing them to be close to each other. Neither of those count as "changing" the chords and the musicians in the audience knew this.

It’s definitely possible to make some other contribution, but not as a “programmer”. I can’t imagine giving a task to someone who can’t construct a basic for loop and a conditional statement.

Do you also have trouble keeping focus through the free Udacity or open courseware classes? If so, paying for classes seems like it would be a waste of money. It would probably be better to spend some time understanding why you can’t focus

I think what you gain by reading is exposure to someone else's way of thinking. You won't get that by sitting in a vacuum. If you're impressionable, you just assimilate the author's way of thinking without any criticism.
