Seriously. Programmers making >> $100k hem and haw about upgrading a tool they use 10 hours a day. It's worth it to upgrade for $100 even if you use it for a week, let alone 6 months.

For the individual, yes, but for society? Death is nature's term limit. Without it we'd be under a Pharaoh with bronze-age ethics.

That's a tradeoff left to the contractual parties. The same human process that infers ill-specified intent can be corrupted to not execute that intent. If you want a human bootstrap, you hire a lawyer as an oracle which decides whether

Do you trust Amazon, Google and Microsoft or millions of sysadmins in podunk companies to secure their infrastructure?

I'm sure creating the first spreadsheet application was more expensive than hiring an accountant. But not doing it 1 million times. Someone will make "contracts as a service" and competition will drive down the cost, until it

There's value in digitizing 90% of the process and relying on as few oracles as possible. Right now your contracts are enforced by fallible, highly paid interpreters (lawyers) executing source code in printed form.

Yep. The type of person who gets a high-paying enough job (and has the discipline) to save $1M usually doesn't have trouble getting extra work if they want. But now there's no pressure, they can take "fun" gigs that coul

I tried a Oculus DK2 and got motion sick, and that's burned into my memory like a drink that gave you a hangover. I'm only going to try it again in the 5th gen after they've eliminated all issues.

I'd say the energy used to charge phones is inconsequential. The iPhone 12 has a 11 Wh battery. Assume it's fully charged daily, that's 11Wh * 365 ~ 4kwh per year. It's about 50 cents of electricity to charge the phone f

Look at the premise here: your life is a competition, a fight. People are coming for you and you'd better have a moat if you want to keep your position. Also, solve the ikigai which has 4 simultaneous variables to optimize. Protip: l

Comparing newspapers to Facebook is likening a cup of water to the ocean ("just water, scaled up"). People aren't reading an ever-changing, infinite-supply, A/B tested, microtargeted newspaper.

You need food more than shelter. Why don't food prices rise until everyone is homeless but non-starving? Actually, you need water more than food. Why isn't fresh water $1000/gallon? Why do we have discretionary income at all?

Do you trade? There are many ways to bet against a stock without actually selling it short. Shorting a stock is not even that capital efficient, and is capped at 100% return. Sell a call spread, buy a put spread, do a diagonal calendar...
