Awesome to hear of new people getting into PCBs! It's wonderful how accessible PCB design has become, and I think KiCad plays a major role in that. If you're the kind of person who can read to learn stuff, I highly recommend this

I came to post this article when I heard of it. This would be a pretty big shake-up in EDA. Interestingly, I don't think there's too much overlap in the two companies. Ansys has a SPICE simulator, but I don't believe it'

It really blew my mind how much Bell Labs influenced the area. I had my internship at Ericsson in Piscataway (formerly Telcordia, formerly part of Bell). I later worked for a defense contractor that came out of the Bell/Lucent/Alc

While this seems a little sad given the history at Murray Hill - and it's an absolutely incredible building to visit - hopefully this is going to bring benefit to Rutgers and their engineering department as well as the technology secto

I submitted this article which was recently shared with me because I love anything talking about open source electromagnetic or signal integrity simulations!

Ah I think this year marks two decades since the Coast Guard's Patrol Forces Southwest Asia (PATFORSWA) started operating in the Persian Gulf. Interesting to see it on a fleet tracker, as it's basically a permanent fixture at this

The sibling reply is certainly correct - all those high speed signals need room, plus adjacent reference planes for good signal integrity. The power distribution also probably needs a lot of copper for the relatively high current the board

I love seeing random Wiki pages hit the front page. On this topic I can highly recommend the book "The Lost Works of Isambard Kingdom Brunel". It was a fascinating read to learn of his impact on both bridges and trains, and neat t

There aren't too many ECAD/PCB tools I haven't at least played with a bit... Diptrace has some neat features but overall I can't quite get used to their design flow and library process. I know Stephen Kraig from the Macr

I love that this document gives a very complete overview of all the steps that go into creating a printed circuit board! I always say, KiCad is easily better than any ECAD tool you can buy for $1,000 or less. They also have a better built-i

There are some interesting discussions on the topic: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/eda/image-to-gerber-converter/ You can also bring an image into Kicad and redraw a circuit. All this of course assumes no inn

I have 4x16GB of 3200MT/s DDR4, but can't get the clock above 1055 MHz (which would be 2110MT/s). There's a chance that the cheaper/consumer grade G.skill memory isn't compatible with those speeds, but it hasn&

The boot time is long, the BMS programs are awkward (but maybe I'm not familiar with server-style BMS programs), and I can't get the DDR4 clock as high as it should be for my DRAM. There's a chance my UDIMM doesn't suppo
