After the creation of cities and nation states, the smartphone is the next major step for the human race towards becoming a single superorganism. Maybe the last major step, seeing as full integration is probably a matter of many smaller adv

I hate that mantra, as it produced more bugs and inaccuracies in the code I have to work with than necessary. Actually you should be able to rely on the equality of a value with its copy no matter what. We are past the FPU days, so I think

You can choose any delta, so that f(t)*constant=f(t+delta) for every t.

No, a polynomial does not have a constant factor for every t.

Tell me another function for which this property holds, but that isn't exponential.

The very meaning of an exponential function is that any point t plus a fixed delta t the value is higher than the value at t by a constant factor. If that factor is getting lower over time it is not exponential anymore, even when it stays a

Aldi cashiers didn't type the prices but numbers for the products. The register would lookup the prices. Cashiers would quickly punch those numbers in without picking up the items for many items and then swoop 5 to 10 items over the re

Without knowing it exactly I have an idea that Norway might be a harder nut to crack because it is outside the EU and some rules don't apply there. I seem to remember something like a butter (?) crisis over there some time ago. That co

I remember people used to do this in Germany when I was a kid ~20 years ago at bigger shops. They would walk up to people loading their cars and ask if they can return the cart for them. I always perceived it as a form of begging. Nowadays

I wonder if these cloud gaming efforts will also lead to latency improvements in remote application usage such as rdp and/or vnc. We are considering using 'heavy' software dev and CAD/CAM workstations on servers in our s

Who is to say that a smaller world pop is necessarily a bad thing? Many of the ecological problems we face today would be smaller at least. And who is to say that the current trend of shrinking pop in the long term stays the same. Maybe, on

I don't think they will have much luck with that. Also I don't have the feeling that Chinese investors have much interest in interfering with European culture (probably less so than American investors).

I have to say (as a person currently on a 25-30 hour work week), that I often times find meetings to be the most exhausting part of my job, especially when I am very engaged in them. Coding is like meditation compared to that (thought I cou

In the common 2 step generation model of C and C++, this information is not needed. When generating object files it is not relevant which .c/.cpp file corresponds to which header files, because they are no inputs to that. Linkong has t

Come the next garbage collect, the file changes in a deleted branch are forgotten. If I don't want to loose changes, garbage collect shouldn't be a thing, because there is no garbage, just history.

Slightly offtopic, I have always considered a strange failure of git that branches are second class citizen in git, not worthy of the same versioning mechanisms as files. It is not unreasonable to expect a versioning system to be able to tr

It seems that the early exit (the return false) in the middle of the loop prohibits the compiler from vectorizing the loop. The compiler can't know if part of the memory is inaccessible and so reading memory not being sure that the loo
