When I got my Thinkpad W500 with a 1920x1280 display four years ago people complained over the Internet about those tiny pixels you can hardly see. It didn't have a funny name though and was just a display.

OT when did blogspot begin to suck that much? with javascript disabled, I get an empty page. With javascript enabled, I see a stupid animation while I have to wait for something to finish.

I'd like to comment on this blog post but unfortunately I cannot remember anything the author wrote. I wonder why he did that. Taking notes about things you read is good academic pratcice for ... a few hundreds? years.

IMHO such lists are rather useless without information about the state of the compiler, indicators for active development, financial situation (who pays the bills?), community size etc.

How do you configure leechblock to act this way? I wasn't aware that leechblock could do this -- even after checking its options. :-/

Lout is around since the early 1990s. The fact that it didn't take off probably indicates that it's no viable alternative. Do they really still require users to explicitly mark paragraphs?

Take courses in philosophy and mathematics/statistics. I think it's important to engage in discussions with peers so just reading books at home won't be of much use unless you already have some basic training. But you'd have to define what

Are you suggesting that slavery and colonialism (whose consequences still hold on today) were better? Maybe we aren't fucked up enough for space exploration yet.

I think a PL to explore novel concepts will hardly ever make it into mainstream. Those languages from the 90s reused concepts that were developed decades ago but were eventually put into a form accessible for the masses. New problems will a

I'm not sure though whether "prefer" (prefer for or as what?) actually measures popularity ... but what kind of popularity anyway? Fanboy-fellowship? People actually using it for work that earns them a living? Hearsay/gossip? With respect t

A rather useless question. The word "prefer" is much too vague. I'd be rather interested in how much experience people actually have with these languages and whether they plan to continue using that language in future projects.

tcl (as embedded interpreter) had its killer apps. tk was IMHO for quite a long time the only reasonable way to provide a cross-plattform GUI. It simply lost traction (due to the developments described in that article but IIRC also due to t

To make myself clear, I personally don't care that much about older articles. Anyway, I think it's good hn practice for older articles to put the year in title ... since many users might expect "news" or are old enough to have been pointed

So the bit about "no more need to abuse objects as dictionaries" is a bit odd. Since most things are objects, you get the power to treat functions, types, literals, etc in interesting ways. I think this was about performance of th
