I'm not sure the authors understands what the NIH syndrome ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_invented_here ) is about. It is about writing everything yourself. IMHO the following paragraphe is highly symptomatic fo

I personally usally find myself searching http://doc.rust-lang.org/std/ . One problem I sometimes run into is that the search seems to do fuzzy searches and generates an often overwhelmingly long list of not all too hel

I agree with respect to the quality of the documentation. I hope they put some effort in rewriting the docs before the 1.0 release. The problem is exacerbated by a load of out-of-date tutorials you come across when searching the internet fo

For whatever reason, I expected the article to be about haxe -- one language that transpiles to everything.

Lazy evaluation in R isn't that difficult to grasp once you accept the fact and don't superimpose an evaluation model dominant in most other languages. It turns out, this kind of lazy evaluation can actually be quite useful.

R (or rather S) wasn't intended to be a general purpose programming language. It was written as a glue language (or rather a DSL) for low-level code for _interactive_ use in the domain of statistics. The goal to have a language that sh

You say you don't have any senior software developer friend. Aren't there any opportunities for networking in Dubai? Meetups etc.?

I actually like the viki and vikitasks plugins a lot. Unfortunately, its html/pdf/docbook converter doesn't work with current versions of ruby.

I'd say this is a biased view. In German speaking countries, social sciences rather suffers from theory flim-flam. Maybe in the US, you didn't have your Luhmann-moment yet.

One important item is missing from this list: your life could be over today. That you still have 50 years to go is an statistical expectation, it isn't a promise.

It you're in game development, you might want to take a look at haxe. It seems many users use it successfully for games.

Frankly, IMHO this combines the worst of two worlds: go's non-lispy syntax and clojure's ... dilatoriness/slowness & fragility of its tooling. I'd much prefer a clojure (or rather scheme) that compiles to go.
