Actually-and perhaps surprisingly-a sizeable swathe of doctors are directly in the firing line for automation and have been for some time[0]. Medical and legal expert systems have been an AI research goal from the very beginning. Economical

OT, this concept was explored by British author Robert Westall in his 1983 SF dystopia Futuretrack 5 : " Was it just coincidence that computerspeak, which we'd learned with such throat wrenching difficulty, was also a complainin

I am not surprised and believe your anecdote without hesitation. XCode is better along multiple dimensions than it was a few versions back, but is still a crawling horror. Even so, the workflow (weird bugs and all) around provisioning is no

Quite. It's not even a huge amount considering all the other stuff you get along with it (and it was less then) but it still felt weird as I'd just come off a stint of Windows Mobile stuff (shudder) which was pretty much plug in a

I actually did, that spend was part of an NRE package for an R&D contract and the cost was borne by the client. How it works. If the point you're making is that the additional developer fee is marginal, you are of course quite corr

No, you're right, iPad mini 2 appears to be the hardware floor for Playgrounds - I can never keep the iPad SKUs straight. IIRC (and I may not, see above) that the 2 was the last 32 bit big shiny rectangle. But the point is there are

My intuition for what was going on here was close on a conceptual level but off by a mile in terms of the implementation detail, which turns out to be something I was dimly aware of but should have known much more about. Very enlightening.

That 'hit' is equivalent to reducing the carrying capacity of the planet by ~5 billion humans or using 50% of the ice free land mass for agriculture to support them.

Not that I'm aware of. RNIB groups have been known to campaign for the addition of pedestrian controlled crossings in specific locations or regions, but part of that is banging on the DfT regs which actually stipulate this design.

They don't all (in the UK) make a sound. In particular, crossings where there are multiple light controlled traffic streams near to each other will have no audible signal to prevent the problem - mentioned up thread - of zombie pedestr
