I got about 5 minutes hands on with WP7 hardware last week, and I have to agree with Gruber. WP7 is really nice. * The UI is very responsive on pre-release hardware. I've been told that the released version will be faster. * The keyboard is

This is so true. We are a dev shop with a lot of experience with .NET. For our most recent web project we decided to take RoR for a spin. Things that would take an hour in .NET took us days. Not because RoR is lacking, but because we just d

Just looked at my co-worker's Android phone and its keyboard does the same thing. If you hold down a letter on the screen it will pop up the alternatives.

I've heard from reliable sources that Verizon will have a W7 phone, but it won't be until early next year. Supposedly has more to do with Verizon's phone system than anything else though.

I got hands on with a pre-release WP7 phone earlier this week. I think all the "kill Apple" stuff is kind of stupid, but the WP7 phone was really really nice. There were lots of nice features and flourishes, and I can honestly say I liked i

I learned at a young age to never ever tell my parents I was bored. My children have learned the same lesson. We also limit our kids to one hour of video games a week, only to be used on Saturday or Sunday. After homework and chores are fin

Your post is both depressing and familiar. I think the reasonable long term solution is that each dev team have one admin as well. That way you have "your guy" who knows what's going on with the code being developed/deployed. I'm not sure i

Coming from VS I love netbeans for writing Rails code in. I became very spoiled by Visual Studio's ability to let you explore libraries via intellisence. Netbeans is the only Ruby IDE I've found that comes close to letting you do that.

Personally, my distaste for PHP centers around the fact that there are so many developers pumping out crappy PHP code for $20 / hr. I don't need to compete in a race to the bottom.

If you're not afraid of Microsoft I recommend Kodu http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/kodu/ My kids literally beg me to be allowed to program with Kodu. It's very visual and very X-Box friendly.

All discipline is painful. Whether it's physical pain or emotional pain. I believe, based on purely anecdotal evidence, that physical pain is less harmful to a child's emotional well being. Corporal punishment, if administered properly, is

Yes, because nature doesn't use pain to teach us ever. That's why I can leave my hand on a hot stove until it turns black. There is a difference between corporal punishment/discipline and abuse.

My wife and I are big fans of that book as well. We have also forced our older children (13, 11) to read the teen version. Useful advice whether you're a Christian or not.

I'm in the habit of taking a lunch time siesta myself. I've found it best to get in the car and drive to a nice shady spot so my clients aren't wondering what the heck I'm doing. A 20 - 40 minute nap in the middle of the day works wonders.

As long as you don't call it REST, then the purists shouldn't have a problem with it. I'm not a purist myself, I'm more about getting things done, and sometimes a useful API just doesn't map cleanly onto REST.

Well, keep in mind that when most people say "REST" what they mean is a web call that sends or receives JSON/XML. Personally, I've found that there are some things that fit really well into a fully REST-ful design, but sometimes you just wa

Actually, I've seen far more racism in the rural/small town north than I've ever seen in the south. And I have lived in the smallest of small southern towns. It probably has little to do with where precisely the town is located and more to

Might I recommend the poster plugin for Firefox? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2691 Has the added benefit of working on stuff you are developing on your own machine.
