Also, if you weren't the best student in high school, community college will give you a chance to establish a better track record. I was an average student in HS (3.0 GPA), but I buckled down at CC and got my GPA up high enough to score an

I thought it was a serious attempt at contrasting the two. While the article does point out some similarities, it also spends the time to show how Apple diverges from actual cults. I suspect that you could find similarities between any cohe

I find it hard to believe that anyone ever thought containment was necessary for oobleck to harden. It basically bounces if you throw a glob of it at a hard surface.

Microsoft itself supports Redis on Windows: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/interoperability/archive/2012/04/26/... The major issue I see MS having is one of perception. For many long years they had "not invented here" blinders on. They have (for

As far as I can tell, that works exactly the same in Windows 8. Hit the win key, type the first few letters of a program name, hit enter.

Yeah, it is software. Software that I can manage just like the rest of our software and not have to worry about buying two devices, or convincing the user that I should be able to wipe the device that they bought, or trying to convince them

Actually, I was responding to the bit about it crashing when you move the mouse wrong. Complaining about how long VS takes to start up is about as useful as complaining about how long it takes the computer to boot. Neither are part of my da

The 1.5 hour battery laptop serves (for me) an important niche. You see, I don't actually need a laptop. I need a portable desktop with built in battery backup, which is what the 1.5 hour battery laptop is. Of course, it's entirely within A

We do the same using Team City and Git (on the .NET stack) although we don't merge to master until the feature in question has gone through manual QA as well. We have 5 QA servers and a dashboard where the tester can point any of the QA ser

To be frank, Apple makes awesome Windows PCs. Their Windows drivers are quite good also. Still hate the placement of the control key on the keyboard though, but I am slowly becoming acclimated to it.

I found this line telling: "It is possible to have multiple windows in Windows 8’s “desktop” app, which is basically a way to mimic Windows 7 on the new OS. Microsoft, though, clearly expects the new interface to become the dominant way to

Great article, but the bit about Web Development vs. Software Development threw me off for a bit. It seems like a pointless distinction. I'm a software developer, my platform is (usually) the web. Sometimes it's the desktop, or a mobile dev

I'll add that with the GUI you don't know exactly what GUI menus correspond to what Git commands, and therefore you can't be sure exactly what the behavior will be when you click that button. Frankly, after you've used git regularly for a w

The MacBooks are stellar Windows laptops. Apple's Windows drivers are quite good. I do curse the placement of the control key on a daily basis, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.

Seriously. Windows 7 is as good as OSX. Not the same, and it has its own weaknesses and foibles, meaning that it might not be as good an operating system for you, but for most users they're interchangeable quality wise.
