Not sure I understand your comment, but generally you have to prove anti-competitiveness /beyond/ too cheap to beat (unless it is a proven loss-leader which, viz all big tech companies, seems very hard to prove)

Lots of folks saying severance is not required. There are laws around mass layoffs in the US, requiring notice or severance.

Not an engineer but I would recommend finding something that connects your past experience to programming. Always nice to frame it as -- programming let me this thing nobody else could, because of domain expertise.
