16GB of RAM is not a lot in workstation applications. I have simulations that use matrices which take 30GB of RAM. This is for one large matrix, where 24 threads are accessing different parts of it simultaneously. Your MBP is physically not

It does not, because you are still stuck with i5/i7 processors, whereas workstations, especially those in high performance applications, would be much more suited to a Xeon. I run a linux workstation with dual 6 core Xeon Sandy Bridge-EP's,

This looks fantastic and seems like a very much needed part of the ssh ecosystem. Most of my work is sshing from my home computer to servers in the cloud, and this seems like it will be perfect for mitigating the feeling of lag.
