Wow. Kindly+thoughtfully toned, pertinent and constructive criticism that is rewarding and encouraging. And at the top. I wish this wasn't as refreshing in HN as it is, but it is damn refreshing.

Focus on your breath going in and out. Every time you have a thought or an urge, notice it and bring yourself back to your breath. From what I've heard so far, meditation is based on focusing on your body in order to quiet your mind. Are

I didn't. First time I read about it. Either way it doesn't seem very constructive - or gentlemanly - to downvote an informed - and depending on the reader informative - comment.

Bret has written an amazing article, but the world he inhabits is soooooooooo far away I can't ever imagine getting there in my lifetime. True, he doesn't seem afraid to take big leaps. Brilliant, visionary essay. But I don't think it's u

That's funny, I had the almost same sci-fi scenario thoughts during one night. The thought of the nature of our minds being defined by a disease that we caught at some point in time and now completely identify with it, that that disease mad

A lot of problems between designer/client arise from miscommunication. It's not a problem that comes from this approach. If the designer knows what she's doing, she just needs to know all the relevant factors.

This list is a good place to start: http://www.maedastudio.com/index.php I would rather not show you specific examples and risk generalizing his work, but I don't want to drown your interest under perhaps too many choices, so I suppose I

I'm male and you don't see me flagging and trolling stories like these. I get your point, but it's a pretty sad thing to read about HN. I thought people here were more evolved than this. This story is now on page 4. Incredible.

media coverage of a non-event There is no cultural study involved here, someone is making a series of videos where she reads tvtropes pages. That's what I meant. You clearly don't care about this study (yes, it's a cultural study) or ab

How did this story already get buried to the second page of HN, when there are half a dozen of stories with roughly the same age and votes in the first half of the first page? I can even see a 4h older post with the exact same number of vot

Why is this suddenly a big deal now? What do you mean it's a "big deal"? Is it a "big deal" because people are talking about it? Are you not cool with that? Someone is doing a cultural study and is getting attacked for it. Some of us thin

You're quite right. But we're still left with many problems stemmed from not having control on the sequence length and file names. I've tried it with a background task and the results are super flimsy. The time that the camera takes to be r

I think that quote is about complex code. We tend to look at macros as dangerous, but this is a pretty clean usage of macros, it's basically a function that turns the arguments into a string. Simple and easy to debug. Don't you think? Edi

For rapid prototyping, I like the serverless one-file simplicity of SQLite. No need to start a db server, the app and the db can be contained in the same directory (and versioned within the same repository). You can drag it to another syste
