I would love to use Redis in non-web apps. Sqlite and Tokyo Cabinet are great, but the data structures manipulation of Redis feel much more familiar to coding, even without a data mapper.

Maybe the Redis codebase is too closely tied to the fact that the complete db has to be loaded in memory?

This is extremely cool. And I had no idea that was possible. They never show the actual needle in this article, but here's a video of playing a vinyl by holding a sewing needle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LpMmt4V14g

I just discovered this through a mailing sent by ngmoco to developers. While Mobage is not specially interesting to me, I'm definitely captivated by the technical approach. Sadly we can't look at the code. Having an engine where the platfor

It's a shame that this hack is necessary; it would have been so easy for the language designer to simply declare that any tab characters used as indentation result in a syntax error then someone else would say that it's a shame that TABS

Interesting, thanks! But here is it's baked in (like appengine). Isn't the point of PAAS like these to let someone else worry about the sysadmining?

Duostack automatically manages horizontal scaling of your app and vertical scaling of your database. Auto-scaling is a killer feature, platforms like Heroku or DotCloud do not support this. Can someone explain how this will work, and the

If this was their main business model, maybe Adobe would focus on quality vs quantity? this urgency to add new features and force users to purchase more sluggish versions after each OS upgrade is not doing it for me. Fireworks used to be an

An important part of spending time with “weird” languages is to acclimate yourself to seeing syntax as the least important battle you face; the broader ideas are always more important, in my view, than the low-level syntax. This article i

Seriously, dude, nobody is out to get you. I'm glad you made Pow. Pow looks awesome. I don't control what gets voted to the top of the page, and I'm probably no happier than you are about the sprawling nerdwar that resulted. Seriously, du

I love this. You simply create a symlink to your app, and boom, the app works at nameofthesymlink.dev. Even after a system restart . And pow is clever enough to only start workers if the app is accessed and shut them down when idle. This i

+1, I'd like to know that. In the meantime, you can access a new app the first time by entering http://myapp.dev (including the http:// ). Looks like after that, Chrome treats myapp.dev as desired.

But should Redis really be part of that list? I feel like the strongest point of Redis is that it realistically allows devs to forget about any complex relational models living outside of the code logic, like the ones referred in the articl

No idea. But crossing this with the "Member Since" date is stunning. I did a quick lookup for three accounts off the top of my head: 03/2008: ~2700 04/2008: ~8800 02/2011: ~627600
