My friend (and the co-creator of the site) likes to point out that Facebook, Twitter, et al., are ego-strokers, and he wanted to make an ego-buster. I don't think either of us expected it to become as successful as it has already. It's all

This is definitely a concern. We're working on a lot of anti-abuse features that will roll out, though, before it leaves private beta.

There's JavaScript embed code for blogs, and links for tweeting and posting to Facebook, but we agree, and we'll be working (as we find time) on better integration with other services.

The site is in very, very early beta. It's a side-project with a friend, but we're trying to work on features as we can. Facebook Connect and Twitter OAuth are high on the list, but so far, users have had enough of an attention span to meet

I helped co-create this site and was surprised to find it linked here. It started as a fun project with a friend: a humorous idea that, as the attention it's gotten has shown, is apparently controversial, as well. I have to say, though, tha

Well, it's certainly not for everyone, but shortcomings are only shortcomings as long as you agree with them and don't care to work on them.

No sneakiness here! While we track visitors and users in order to look out for abuse, this data is not and will not be made available to profile users.

I've added a few HTML5 form helpers to this gem: http://github.com/stephencelis/rerails/tree/2-3-stable So something like this would do the trick: <%= f.email_field :email %>

Dropbox is much more convenient for non-coders, and there's nothing stopping the developer from additionally running `git init`.

Oh, it's completely awkward, and completely fun. The point wasn't to create a new library to supplant others (if someone used this code in production, I think the joke would be on them), it's to have fun with what's possible in Ruby, and pe

I think the point of the original post is that Ruby can parse URL-like syntax (e.g., http://twitter.com/statuses/show/6592721580.json ) as code, no strings attached.

Never said to the contrary, but skills can be acquired, and roasting is one of the easier ones to work on.

Most coffee is still good when it was roasted a week ago (whole-bean, of course, and true, a week is starting to push it). The problem is that plenty of places—Starbucks, etc.—sell several-month-old beans.

I'd definitely second the recommendation to roast your own. Green beans are cheap, and the you can't really have better control over freshness. Hackers interested in roasting their own should probably just grab a cheap $15–20 hot air popcor

Freshness is great, yes, and the quality of the beans and roast are usually higher from places that actually disclose the roast date, but grind is very important. Coffee is very much about the extraction: under-extract, and the coffee will
