I'm a back-end dev who's transitioned to being more full stack in the last couple of years. I've written a little bit here on a workflow that I kind of fell into that I've corrected recently and figured it might be usefu

I ran into an issue a little while ago with DataDog treating all cert-manager logs as error logs. I've written up how we solved it in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

I live in the UK and know plenty of people who tip delivery drivers. Not to the extent of the US admittedly. Do you have a source?

I winced reading this. I normally write down what I think needs some feedback then leave it until the next weekly 1:1. I think sleeping on something like this leaves me in a much better state to deal with in a reasonable way.

I've written a walkthrough of building a very simple static site using Parcel as the build tool and Stimulus as a scripting library. I'm really enjoying using these tools and figured that a walkthrough was a good way to show off w

A worker has some control over their commute. That same worker cannot enact any control over security practices. We do compensate employees for commuting to somewhere other than their usual place of work.

iirc there are very few distinguished engineers at Amazon. Tim Bray is high flying from a technical standpoint.

Could you elaborate? I would have thought that AMD would be invested in offering comparably good drivers. I'm not taking issue with a game not performing optimally. I'm taking issue with a reasonably common desktop environment (Ub

I moved my 5700xt into a purely for fun gaming pc and replaced it with a 1050 in my dev machine. I had the exact same experience, but in December gave up on having linux play nicely with Navi for the time being. I will readily admit to bein

I like being able to use the image in later pipeline steps without having to pass a variable around. This would be tough to do with time, but it's easy to do with date since we only really run those pipeline during work hours.

Fwiw I've found turbolinks gives me enough of an SPA feel that POST reloads aren't a huge problem. If we need a very dynamic experience then Vue would-be my go to tool, but for the other 90% this is fine.

All our JVM projects use gradle. We run `gradle build` and it resolves all dependencies and runs all tests. I don't understand the claim that node has the least getting started friction.

While I think it's easy to poke fun at this article - relational database better at handling relational data, more at 10 - it does make me want to understand why one would choose mongo over postgres?

I've recently been using StimulusJS [0] and found it to be a really nice mid-point between spaghetti and a heavier framework. It has conventions out of the box, it does things in a reasonably disciplined way then it disappears. [0] ht

I thought that idiomatic react involved using JS render functions to turn JSX + Data into HTML; and using css-in-js to handle styles? I'm somewhat wary of React because I feel like it pushes developers to work with non-standard tools r
