They neglected a huge part of the coming electric vehicle picture: lightweight, slow-speed electric vehicles. Almost 60% of US car trips are 5 miles or shorter. (2017 ref: https://nhts.ornl.gov/tables09/ae/work

I mean, I know that's the case in a lot of places. But it's also not the case in a lot of places so I figured I'd see if OP had considered the possibility.

Cars parked on the street are a huge inconvenience. They've just managed to formalize that inconvenience, and we forget about the fact that cars stole 85% of the street while people using their own feet are stuck sharing the other 15%

Sounds like a vicious circle. Too much carbon in the atmosphere warming the climate? Of course the solution is to build more air conditioners and blast out more carbon. /s Why would we opt for air conditioning instead of improving our

I'm curious to know - how did you manage to buy and sell a house by age 24 in the midst of a major housing bubble? Seems the down payment and credit-worthiness in any major metro would have been a pretty huge hurdle for someone only a

It's very far off. You would either need seriously over-performing investments or some kind of exit. I ran the numbers for a simple scenario, assuming a current $150k income: - With a 5% yearly raise and a 7% investment return, you end

Everywhere in the Bay Area has a severe housing shortage. Even with $150k+ salaries, there are very limited housing options available on the peninsula. The Bay Area's land-use policies are directly responsible for the absurdly high hou

I lived in Brisbane for a year. It was beautiful and calm and peaceful and pastoral. I had 3 apple trees, a peach tree and a pear tree. It's totally unsustainable for cities like Brisbane to have such a huge jobs/housing imbalance

I didn't say that. 45k is just the midpoint in density between Nob Hill and Telegraph Hill. Seems like a good target for the baylands neighborhood. Brisbane's city report from 2013 states there were ~6,500 jobs in the city. Add in

And it's even harder in California where so much of the property tax roll is frozen at tiny values from the past. Prop 13 can take almost exclusive blame for cities in California giving preference to jobs and retail over housing. It&#x

The Brisbane baylands area is a full square mile, which is contiguous with parts of San Francisco and is separated by a 5-lane highway from the current residential part of Brisbane. I live in a mixed SFH/midrise apartment neighborhood

A well-designed permaculture system should exceed industrial farming if you are talking about productivity per square meter. The problem is that the amount of labor required is totally unsustainable to feed billions of people. That's w

Actually it takes a temperature of 120 celsius to inactivate C. botulinum spores, which means you have to pressure cook any non-acidic foods that will be canned.

This always struck me as weird because of how many people I know who cook a giant pot of rice in a rice cooker and just leave it on the counter as they eat the rice over a couple days. Never knew it to cause vomiting.

I think staffing costs would make this difficult if it's even possible. How many staff run a modern airline on a cross-Atlantic trip, maybe 10? With an 8 hour trip time, that's 80 hours of staff time for about 300 passengers. Or a

The real way to make people drive a certain speed - is to design a road that makes people drive that speed. It's been a really slow process, but bit by bit we are beginning to recover from the mistake of treating the design of transpor
