The people who have /dev/mem and run this garbage must form a complete overlapping circle.

The standard processes don't fail in the manner that AI does - they don't randomly start inventing things. Your paralegal might not give you great case law, but they won't invent case law out of thin air .

Well there is at least one way which they should be dealing with it, which is to immediately revoke the current CrowdStroke kernel driver. Surely that thing can't be kept loaded ready to explode at the next malformed "channel upda

People are target fixating too much. Sure, this parser crashed and caused the system to go down. But in an alternative universe they push a definition file that rejects every openat() or connect() syscall. Your system is now equally as dead

I don't think you understand what a kernel driver is. Apple won't sign yours full stop and Microsoft already has a certification program in place.

Stop signing CrowdStrokes shitty kernel driver? Because that's what made the thing load. That is also pretty much the Apple way nowadays.

As this article rightly points out, people don't tend to care for why your lossy abstraction is making them out to be dead.

I don't exactly care who is blamed for this in the chain of stupidity, but it must happen. This corrosive attitude of "oops software problems nothing we can do" must end fast.

I read the T&C of this CrowdStroke garbage and they have the usual blurb about not using it in critical industry. Maybe we just charge & arrest the people that put it there and this checkbox-software mess stops real quick.

They might just have it, remember when the night of the Russian invasion of Ukraine satellite terminals in Europe started being bricked with faulty firmware updates?

These files are apparently just definitions/input for the actual CrowdStroke driver, that presumably someone named .sys so it sounds more scary and important. Peak irony then that you can just delete them. Surely an antivirus should re

When we think "security" on HN we think about the people who escalate wiggling voltages at just the right time into a hypervisor shell on XBox, but I've had to recognize that my learned bias is not correct in the real world.

It's an endless cycle of Mozilla buying some shitty company then forcing their shitty "technology" into Firefox. We must be on episode three or what of this nonsense now. "Leader"ship is rotten.
