Yes of course. If the goal is to hire for attribute x and you decline to say whether you posses that, they will pass you over until they find what they're looking for.

If they're hiring people who have no more than 2 years of experience they must understand that it will also take a senior like you to be an almost full time mentor to make them productive instead of you building stuff yourself. Are th

When a pack of coyotes enters the pasture where my sheep are, a semi-auto 7.62mm is one of the best tools for the job. Can also be used when foxes go after my poultry. These are fast moving predators and despite being a practiced marksman

It is a low number, too low, and prevents citizens being paid what they're actually worth in a market without this government intrusion. Corporate welfare.

Yes, this, and I know the problems we're solving are not as interesting as what anyone at Google is doing, so I assume they would be bored and only stay until they find something more interesting. So, pass. FAANG kind of traps you - y

Are you sending those emails while on the job as an elected state representative chairing the house Intelligence committee? If you were, that would be an example of a government trying to censor it's citizens by abusing their power an

Corporate software dev gig in the Bay Area. Was like a 10 minute commute by bike from my house. All but 2-3 of us on a team of 30 or so were H1B, all from the same village in India. Many of them appeared to have little more than some pas

5 positions in 7-8 years would be a red flag for me. I wouldn't want to invest in someone who isn't likely to stick around for more than 1.5 years. I think it typically takes at least that long to start to understand the busines

Feels that way. Inside metro areas in the US there is very little difference of opinion on most issues. It was not always this way. People seems mostly content to consume content and ‘raise awareness’ online, and repeat.

That's served me well for 25 years in the industry. I don't think this approach works everywhere - the larger the organization, the more you need to play this game. Since I hate that game, I've stayed away from orgs like th

My thoughts exactly. Why would the implementation language bless a piece of software as ‘relevant’? I’d also argue learning how to do for loops in bash, which would let you write them on about any server in any data center on the planet,

I’ve been hiring for 15 years maybe and always read resumes. The skills bubble is critical for me personally - they need to have some stuff in there that matches what tech we use. I also don’t look at LinkedIn - doesn’t add anything to me

Did you use VB6? It was less a language and more of a wysiwyg windows desktop GUI application builder. If that's what you learned in school and it was your first professional job, you would have a very difficult road ahead of you lea
