We weren't talking about whether the registry was better or worse, we were talking about how similar the two OSes were.

Scrcpy is fantastic, no idea how it Just Works™ so smoothly and painlessly, but it does.

Yeah, fair enough. I have a VLAN with no Internet access for those devices, it's convenient.

At least your use case would be served well by enabling LAN mode, which doesn't let the printer talk to the internet, even if you want it to (and I want mine to).

Why should I have to send all my prints to Bambu when the printer is sitting right next to me? Why do I have to choose between being able to stop my printer remotely or Bambu not tracking my every move, when it's trivial to have both?

No problem! The only helping hands I'd recommend are https://omnifixo.com/ . Pricy, but everything else I've tried has too much play and is useless to me. Omnifixo is just fantastic.

Because why would anyone pay anyone if they were going to do what they threatened you with anyway?

If the bad guys get paid and release the info anyway, they not only make it less likely they'll get paid in the future, they make it less likely anyone will get paid in the future. Even other bad guys have an incentive to stop these

"You can't use any client you want because of security" is bullshit, as if hackers will care what client you'd like them to use or not when they're trying to hack your infrastructure. This is just Bambu alienating t

I don't know, do people exist who will run 220 V wiring through their house, even though a few mm of plastic separate the two wires from conflagration? Who use devices running on thousands of volts, with mere inches separating their ha

One time there was construction/renovation going on one floor below mine. I'm talking sledgehammers, jackhammers, the whole shebang. For some reason, I've never slept better. Every little noise generally wakes me up (like som

It's especially tiring how apparently datacenters were invented last year. Datacenters were fine when you were using them to encode video for the billionth mindless TikTok short, but AI suddenly made them the scourge of the earth?

I think that's the point, these spaces greatly prefer recurring donations because a) the aggregate value is usually more than a one-off and b) they're much easier to reason about, as they're more "evened out".

Ok, then fine, the companies who licensed their software as OSS did that for as long as they wanted to, and then they moved away. What's the issue here?

Given that you do need a machine that runs 24/7 to run Tailscale, I think it's very reasonable to describe it like that. Sure, maybe you can install it on your Windows machine, and figure out all the networking bits that will get

OK. This doesn't change my view that Bambu is not open, and just does the bare minimum so people can't say it's completely closed.

Sure, but presumably you can engage with the spirit of the analogy? Let's be pedantic, and say someone gave apples away in exchange for donations, and when everyone only got a few apples and donated, things are fine, but then someone d

Yeah man I don't know, if the argument is "it's fine for Bambu not to make a trivial change to allow openness because I can set up a home Linux server that runs 24/7 with OpenVPN and iptables", I'll say this is
