Disclaimer: I'm the author of Grapl[0], which aims to do what you're talking about. Normally I don't really comment on the product on HN, but you're describing Grapl's raison d'être. So, audit is one subsystem

The point is that the existing behavior is de-facto correct by virtue of being the existing behavior. The goal here is not "Prove this software meets a spec" it is "This software is the spec, and we must not regress"

Very simple - I really like that, thanks for sharing.

by staticassertion 7y ago
If your goal is "I have a blackbox of code, I must make a change, and I will assume existing behaviors are correct", this approach should be reasonable to ensure that the code doesn't break after your change. You don't h

Congrats Jack. Really excited to see where Panther is headed - code based detection is the future!

Maybe it's the more niche use case of deploying to AWS Lambda before custom runtimes.

Maybe not the only way, but it was the easiest and most widely recommended way when I was figuring out how to do musl builds around 2 years ago.

It's possible, but my laptop runs fairly cool - it's elevated on a stand and is 18 inches, with a lot of ventilation. Of course it doesn't compare to a desktop system, but even still, this thing is hardly weak. It's a bi

Yeah I have 8 cores(HT) and 16GB, which is apparently just not enough. I think my plan is to just move builds to some kinda EC2 instance that I can bulk up.

I also work on a ~15kloc rust project. I use cargo check all the time. Still extremely slow, not to mention that my whole system can be locked up by rustc, which really kills development. I'll probably find a way to cgroup rustc just

At one point docker was the only way to do this, I think. So if you start searching the internet for how to do static linking with musl you're very likely to find links to the docker'd approach.

This assumes (and likely correctly assumes, in most cases) that 'reasonable limit' and 'probable system limit' are orders of magnitude apart. I think that may not always be true though. Especially for highly variable wor

As far as I can tell he's been way too slow and this is still not a lock down, so I'm unsure why I see so much praise for him. I suspect it's because he did a cutesy interview.

You are correct. Especially given that expenses are hightened right now. People are stocking up all at once, which requires upfront money - something most of the country does not have. 1k is considerably less than even unemployment, which i

Not all directors are on the board, but sure you can say executives or whatever. That's probably more accurate.
3587.
by staticassertion 7y ago
I think what they meant was that the board does not usually interact a lot with employees, or in a directly employee-facing way. Usually directors will interact with the board, both in terms of informing them and soliciting advice, and that

Yeah. A lot of people focus on the insured vs uninsured gap - if you're uninsured you're fucked. But the reality is that, even with insurance, medical care is a disaster. Finding a doctor in your network, waiting months to see the

To my knowledge every single major AV packages a local emulator. We have long, long moved beyond a world where AV does basic pattern matching. Frankly, I am far less concerned with the js interpreter than I am the rest of the codebase. htt

I've been using DDG for years. It's perfectly fine. What I've found is I don't use general search engines much in general anyways - I use ddg macros like !rust to search rust docs, or other common places I search.

The actor model is at least 50 years old if not more, and it is found in all sorts of places in some form, which is unsurprising since it is a fundamental model for computation. So, for example, it is not hard to argue that SOA/Microse

The thesis is, in general, excellent and well worth a read if you're interested in software reliability even outside of Erlang. The first few chapters are just a great read for any developer I think.

Even if it were 17%, that ignores impact. Impact of a bug in C is very often, at best, taking the entire service down, and at worse gaining full RCE. I also think that a percentage is a weak indicator in general. With bug bounties we'r
