Good call. I mean "citizen" in the general sense like "person who lives under Rome" but wasn't thinking that "citizen" had a very specific meaning in the Roman context. I edited my answer

And also rely on a lot less infantry so casualties are lower. Even with as brutal as Russia-Ukraine is, the total number of military men killed is comparable to a single decent-sized WWII battle

The best boss I ever had asked me to whiteboard factorial recursively. I don't think it needs to be much harder than that to see if someone can solve a basic problem and knows—at least basic—CS stuff. I won't work at a company tha

I'm early-30s and found out this week that the tendonitis in my foot that the doctor swore would clear up "in a month or two" with ice, ibuprofen, and stretching, is actually arthritis. My hair's getting a little thin to

I have subscriptions to the Economist (never had a problem pausing or canceling my subscription), the Athletic for sports (they always give me a huge discount when I try to cancel), and since the war in Ukraine started I have subscriptions

The answer always seemed obvious to me. There is no threshold that makes us greater than the sum of our parts, no inflection point at which we become fully alive. We can't define consciousness because consciousness does not exist. Huma

There’s this Western conception of Buddhism that stripes away a lot of the religious beliefs—Siddhartha wasn’t divine at all, there is no Amitabha, Ksitigarbha is a folk tale. The emphasis is all on practice. Meditation, the 4 noble truths,

For older workers it can actually be easier because people move a lot in their 20s. A worker in their 40s might only have to list 3 addresses where a kid 2 years out of college might have to list like 5--one for every dorm and their parents
