Nope, it does not. Only the trigger phrase (“Hey Siri“) is recognised locally on the device (according to Apple), everything that comes after that is sent as audio recording snippet to Apple servers where the actual speech recognition happe

Microsoft is really shooting themselves in the foot with their terrible approach to privacy ever since Win10. Given that they earn money by selling actual products, they could stand right next to Apple as a defender of privacy if they wan

> FWIW i think desktop peaked around Windows 2000 and on Linux around GNOME 2 and KDE 3.5 IMO the peak of KDE was version 2.2... 3.0 was already a step backwards, although it did become quite good again by the time it reached 3.5. Then w

Most importantly: having real physical controls (buttons, knobs, etc) makes a huge difference. Tapping fingers on a hard glass surface just isn't the same. Also, the joy of a single-purpose device which makes it easier to get deeply in

And IMO it's even worse on Amazon than on eBay. At least on eBay you know that it's not sold by eBay themselves, because that's how the whole website works. And also, eBay prominently shows who the seller is on the listing pa

I really don’t understand Microsoft on this and related stuff like the forced telemetry. Why are they doing it? Is the little bit of user data really that valuable? Is it worth it to piss off so many of their users? Are they aware how it

After buying a screen which has only a USB-C DP-Alt-Mode input, I was recently in the market for a matching cable. My only requirements were “it should be as long as possible, at least 2 meters” and “it needs to support DP-Alt-Mode”. Now I

When I looked into the issue of USB-C hubs some time ago, all I could find is this claim in a blog article [0] that suitable chips for such USB-C-hubs are not available: > Update (2018-07-30): Accidental Tech Podcast reports on a rumor t

I get your point, and at some point in the future I’m sure USB-C will prevail. My point is that we’re not there yet , and right now, having at least one old-fashioned USB-A port on a laptop is just useful. Right now, it’s like throwing out

Sure, if I throw away all the USB-A things I have and start over now... but that would be quite a waste. Also, try to find a true USB-C hub. With that I mean a box with one upstream USB-C input and several (>= 3) USB-C downstream ports.

> Moving back to older USB ports really would make no sense. They're obsolete. I sure wish I could join you in the year 2030 where USB-C is everywhere, but unfortunately I’m stuck here in 2019 and USB-A is still the de-facto standar

I also bought and used Corel Linux when it first came out. It was great . To me it is still the closest thing Linux ever had to being a really user-friendly desktop OS. No other Linux distribution ever since quite got that right as they di
