This article reminded me of wave function being a complex-valued function! Does this have anything to do with octonion, nature's symmetries/invariants or the standard model?

Ok... lengthy article... how do I validate the ideas here? Are they predictive? Are they prescriptive? Are they correct (aside from most of them being somewhat obvious). Are they helpful? I can't say I'm illuminated. Maybe others

As an ML engineer & former data scientist, I use awk almost everyday. It's indispensable to pick columns, run simple stats, parse unstructured files, convert between two formats... Hacky, but often the fastest tool.

I do agree with your assessment that kids are the biggest expense and possibly the biggest joy in life. Well it’s a risk and difficulty worth for many of us. But do your math. After certain age family is the biggest and maybe the only close

Two thoughts come to mind: * Is the population dropping given all this negativity? My guess: No! Else, property prices and/or rent would've dropped as well. => This survey is just plain "complaining". Not actual act

Remember Amazon? Remember they were "just" an online bookseller? When the firm is headed by a visionary, and it's located in the valley, 20B losses incurred so far may prove to be a rounding error. That said, most of the arti

Brings me back in memory lane, where I was a 13-14 yrs old middle-schooler trying to read this extremely thick manual with no or little background in logic design, CPUs etc. Well I could still program, or at the very least hack it to show s

How can zestimate be trusted if zillow is in the business of buying and selling homes? There's a reason why banks separate advisory business from the trading business.

I tend to believe life is universal. It may arise in a Turing machine that executes all possible programs one line at a time in parallel. It may arise in the subatomic realm... assuming sub-atomic particles exhibit sufficiently diverse comp

It's interesting that they're following the lead by Opendoor---the startup that pioneered the same. What I don't like about this business is it's very capital intense with low ROI. Sort of like high frequency trading for

Ha! It took me 3+ years to really understand real analysis. How? I tried to imagine 10, 20, 30 etc examples for every abtract definition in the books. E.g. take the definition of open set. Try to imagine 10s of examples of open sets. Then
