Atm I have no plans of rewriting to vanilla, as it is really cumbersome to maintain two parallel libraries. But the most of the code can be reused to write vanilla solution if you want to give it a try.

They are free and development is much more active. Community is also getting stronger, as they are both open source. This means that plugins are always up to date. I love Sublime but there is also a https://en.wikipedia.org/

Same here. I used it on a couple of mobile-only projects. But 99% of the clients want IE support, and it is way easier to skip flexbox in that case.
