That's an interesting perspective (and now that you mention it I can think of someone at work who loves types and also tends to break stuff). I myself love static types because it allows me to avoid certain classes of errors and I try

I feel the same way. Much better to encode the complexity of what you're modeling in types instead of ignoring the inherent complexity. By precisely encoding the shape of the data in types you are forced to engage with the values it ca

I strongly identify with this. I lucked into learning pure, typed FP at work and I can't go back. I think there are professional opportunities doing FP in Haskell/functional Scala, though they are few and far between and in certai

Yeah, agreed, but it's nice that it gives you the flexibility to be able to throw a `// @ts-ignore` in there and tell the compiler not to worry about it. I've definitely done that when consuming wonky libraries with mess

I agree that TypeScript's type system is clunky compared to Elm, but being able to add a good amount of type safety with such a small learning curve and a large ecosystem at your disposal is a massive win. And Elm has its own problems

As an example from my personal experience, up until last year, Brazil required Americans to get a tourist visa. They also charged identical visa fees based on what Brazilians have to pay to visit the US as a tourist. On their website they m

This is a nice part about having kids. You get to play with them and be reminded about how fun it is (tag and climbing the jungle gym is still fun and so are legos!).

I think it's a reaction to programmers' particular tendency to focus on things that aren't best serving the goal of solving the problem at hand. Programmers often have a "pet" focus that relates to what they enjoy:

My advice is to start working on a project you care about and then learn everything required to make it happen. If you already know JavaScript, maybe build and deploy a static website. Once you've done that then perhaps make it interac
