The Stockfish mentality is: not everybody owns a GPU and Stockfish should be available for everybody and perform well [1]. So they went for a CPU micro-arch optimized neural net, which is great. Maybe this is ultimately not the best for tou

I remember I ran into this Ryzen problem too. Spent a long time trying to figure out a bug in my code (random numbers were deterministic between runs), which ultimately was fixed by upgrading the bios.

You can donate to Signal too. What has to happen until people realize they should be willing to pay a little money for a service? We've actually witnessed that people _are_ willing to pay for streaming services like Spotify and Netflix

It's including compilation time and memory too, which I would consider a major flaw in the benchmarks game. If I wrap things in a function and run it a second time in the repl, this is what I get: $ JULIA_LLVM_ARGS="-unroll-

I doubt there's any performance to be gained that way, but if so, the C implementation can just use `restrict` to the same effect.

In terms of current job openings probably R is best. Julia got its first stable release in August 2018, meaning that more companies could be adopting it now, but R has been around since 1995. If you like Python, Julia is probably easy to pi

mksquashfs supports gzip, xz, lzo, lz4 and zstd too, you can also compile it to have any of those as a default instead of gzip. Does the performance benchmark show DwarFS versus single-threaded gzip compressed SquashFS?

Yeah, this is great. Julia has it since a couple years in the Documenter package. Plus basic Markdown rendering in the REPL when you hit `?func`. Markdown + extension to understand language specific cross-references is powerful! [1] [1] ht

Does anybody know what the status is of Accelerate [1]? Is it implemented for Apple Silicon? Is it optimized for it? To me it seems very few people use this framework. [1] https://developer.apple.com/documentation/accel

MKL is heavily optimized for Intel microarchs and purposely crippled on AMD (I believe dgemm is fast, sgemm slow). I don't think MKL benefits from optimizing it for Apple Silicon, especially considering Apple ditched Intel's hardw

For people who are generally interested in these kind of identities relating a fraction to a recursion, please check out the generatingfunctionology book [1]. The basic idea is to define f(x) = sum_n f_n x^n where f_n satisfies some recursi

Compute the generating function f(x) = sum_n f_n x^n where f_n satisfies your favorite recursion. Compute f(b^-1) where b is your base. For fibonacci f(x) = x / (1 - x - x^2).

A standard technique to find explicit expressions for the `n`th number of a recursion is through generation functions; see e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generating_function . You can plugin x = 10^-1 there. Not sur

Switzerland does have the Gotthard Base Tunnel aka the longest railway tunnel in the world: 57km or 35.5mi. Anecdotally I believe the current 4g connection is best in the very front of the train, but gets worse if you're in the back.

Sure, you can implement it yourself. But even if you create an amazing tree/hashmap-based type-signature-tuple inheritance-aware multiple dispatch object, you still have to think about how to make other packages use it. I would also be

Have you even read the readme in that link? Start a julia repl, hit ] for the package manager, paste `add MKLSparse`, write `using SparseArrays, MKLSparse`, run `sprand(100,100, 0.1) * rand(100)`
