This is nonsense. There are plenty frameworks, like the one discussed in this post. The lack of any kind of language feature has never stopped people from writing solid libraries, frameworks and applications in Go. Lots of examples out ther

I think that is better explained as "the Go _community_ is very anti-framework and pro-library" There is nothing about the language, which is general purpose, that makes it anti-anything really.

I think this would be more interesting if it was found out that the location data also went to a remote server.

No the IDFA is for native apps only and does not exist on the web. It is not exposed to websites.

I don’t think it actually can because WebKit on macOS has been replaced by WKWebView which has a severely limited API surface that without doubt is way too shallow for Electron.

Yes of course. But you cannot replace the networking that WKWebView uses.

You can read the details here: https://mozillagfx.wordpress.com/2019/10/22/dramatically-red... The required bits for that work are not actually documented.

Yeah sure technically correct. But both ship with macOS and both are built by the same trillion dollar company who owns the whole ecosystem.

I thought all you needed for the macOS app notarizing was a free AppleID and free developer account?

This is about macOS not iOS. Electron and Chromium on iOS is not a thing.

Besides technical limitations: the iOS App Store rules are clear: it is simply not permitted.

Let’s be clear: they are important APIs that would allow non-Safari (WKWebView based really) browsers be competitive on macOS.

This whole storm about macOS. Which is an extremely open platform. You can develop apps with amazing tools by Apple or you can do C, C++, Ruby, Java, Electron you name it. You don’t even have to pay anyone money to build an app and share it

This has never been a good argument if you look at what happens inside an ecosystem owned by a trillion dollar business.

I think every single platform is struggling with this. Even Electron or Chromium itself. They all have internal or private APIs or things that are not ready for prime time or just plain internal details. Opening up private APIs is a commitm

No you can’t actually customize the networking anymore. On iOS Apple controls the whole web stack. Content, networking, JavaScript.

The right thing to do for the IOSurface or CALayer API is to file a radar and start a discussion with Apple to make it official. They do listen and this has happened plenty before. Rage tweets or Medium postings probably won’t help much tho

Is that correct? Is there a Mac App Store rule that says “thou shall use WebKit” ? Do note that the point on macOS is kind of moot because it IS an open platform. Unlike iOS you do not have to use the App Store.

No app is being booted. New updates are being rejected because of private API usage. If Electron fixes their usage of private APIs then this whole storm blows over. Now if Apple introduces a rule that specifically says “non-AppKit apps are

Uhhh Apple is not banning electron. It is banning the use of private APIs. The only reason Electron is in the news is because it uses some of those APIs. Now you could argue that private APIs are a stupid idea. But turning this into a consp
