That's very relevant context. I had an impression that he considers Cardano worse than Facebook, while IMO it's mostly harmless project compared to major software employers.

While Cardano is the biggest of the elephants, there are others, like e.g. Dolla, slightly related to Well-Typed through e.g. https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-feuer-04111a73

Maybe I'm a bit silly about this, but can't linear or affine types be actually useful for blockchain? To represent something which can be used (spent) only once?

They are likely all in-house tools. Take a look at github projects of this Haskell-using bank for example: https://github.com/barclays Not sure if this counts, but IIRC in one of the talks, Edward Kmett was describing row-p

I've been using TTS for years by now, and IMO it's really good by now for original digital epub editions. The biggest remaining issue is some words can be mispronounced (wrong part of speech, foreign or rare words). Even "te

The positives you listed are features of most social networks, not just Facebook. If Facebook disappeared overnight, another platform(s), hopefully more ethical, would quickly take over its role, and it could be a net positive for the world

I don't quite get this concern about proprietary JS. I agree JS can be malicious, but it has nothing to do with license. Or you can say you don't want to give your data to Slack.

By "biased to the left" I guess you mean they support socialism a la Bernie Sanders? So far I enjoyed listening to Greenwald's podcast (System Update), except it was rather weird hearing him casually saying that annexation of

Yes, except that we use google spreadsheets for collaborative editing. My coworker switched from MS Office to LibreOffice just because the former never detected UTF-8 encoding in TSV files.

Note that I meant Saruman, not Sauron. Unlike most of LOTR characters, Saruman is a very modern and enlightened kind of person striving for "Knowledge, Rule, Order", but using Machiavellian means to achieve this purpose. Maybe Sau

I find it hilarious that Thiel is a fan of Tolkien, yet he seems to embody Saruman's ideology (if not worse), while Tolkien's philosophy is more of Gandalf's. Tolkien was generally against technology, but especially against s

For analytical workloads, DuckDB may be better than SQLite, but it's just incomparably slower than e.g. ClickHouse (which is admittedly not embedded).
