Even though I agree with point 1, 2 and 4, I'm not with you on point 3. Why take OO to an extreme when there is no technical nor functional reason to do so? The best example is Math.Sin(x) vs. Sin(x)... There is no valid reason (IMHO) to go

I don't want to turn this into a philosophical debate, but if what you are saying is true (I hope not), the community is wrong IMHO. Human languages defines what concepts we are able to think and reason about. I believe that George Orwell s

It's been a long time since an internet art project has left me speechless. Even ignoring the technical merits of this site, this is beautfull.

The answer is already in the linked article IMHO. What if I started a phone directory service named phonebook (which is a perfectly valid english of the dutch "Telefoonboek"). Shouldn't be a problem IMHO.

Even though I like CouchDB, I find their slogan "CouchDB, relax" pretty ironic right now!

Yeah, i've never done any research into DSL's, but I always thought they would have some sort of custom syntax. Since DSL's seem quite the hype ATM, I'm a bit dissapointed by these examples. Sure, nice coding and all that (even though I wou

With all due respect, I think he failed horribly. How can you accept a project due in two weeks, and then afterwards learn about the basic requirements? If you're so obsessed with 'clean code' (a concept i doubt if it even exists), how can

Recently I saw a poster by a wierd but beautifull Dutch organisation called Loesje, translated it said: "It was a day like this one that Marco Polo set sail to China. What are your plans for today?" IMHO it's not about where you are today,

Every language that gains a big following will be hated upon. Compare it PHP, which is still the most used web scripting language. Even though it has it's pitfalls it's WTF's, it still seems to recieve much more hate than it deserves.

Can anyone point me to some good introductions on programming in a functional style for people who can already program in OO and imperative languages? My day job is Java mainly with some javascript mixed in, did a lot of PHP too. I used to
