I agree. My query returns PHP, but PHP developers earn significantly less than their C or Java equivalents, for instance.

Hey, I buy my furniture at Ikea, are you calling me cheap? Seriously though, Ikea doesn't thrive because of their marketing, at least not where I live. You barely see Ikea advertisements. Ikea is known for having a wide range of cheap and m

I've been using Sumatra for a long time, but it's been supplanted by Firefox in most cases recently. Sumatra is great and lightweight though, and it uses a robust and open source rendering and parsing engine.

I agree that the Acrobat plugin was a pain (and I always made sure to disable it in Firefox), but I absolutely love the Firefox in-browser PDF viewer. It doesn't lock up the PC while loading, and it has a convenient download button that doe

One line at a time. Is that significantly slower for stdin? I would assume that this wouldn't make a difference, since we're talking about simple memory operations, and 20k method invocations shouldn't be that hard on a modern system.

I have noticed a similar thing recently. A programming challenge with a 10s max time restriction, and just reading the input and storing it in an array takes over 7 seconds. I allocate the array ahead of time, as soon as I know the size. Th

I love the idea behind being able to collect the snippets and quotes you come across, but not having an alternative for a Facebook sign in pretty much makes this useless for me.

I tried both on my Windows 7 laptop from work, which runs on a first-gen i5 and HD2000 graphics. The HTML5 version runs smoothly, the Flash one is barely playable and has lots of visible tearing from the lack of VSync.

Sorry for the delayed reply, the laptop I got is a Sony Vaio S15. And I did turn off EFI and enabled legacy BIOS in the menu, since I found EFI implementations to be severely bugged in a lot of cases, and I'd rather just avoid them until th

I have been running HD3000/HD4000 for years and never had a crash or lock up. You're not talking about AMD's Radeon HD 3k/4k are you? Because I believe both dmm and I are talking about Intel's HD range.

I'm looking for a tablet device where the graphics drivers are open source, or there are decent reverse engineered open source drivers. So far the list is very short: buy Intel HD graphics hardware. The problem you raise is exactly why I'm

You seem to think people should constantly jump ship and change languages/ecosystems. I used to do this, and the result is that you don't get results. I still look at new developments, and toy with new technology and programming languages,

I've bought many laptops, and regretted it every time I didn't buy a ThinkPad. That's not to say the others are bad. It's just that ThinkPads are in a class of their own.

That's not a fair comparison: everyone who buys an XBox or a PlayStation, intends to play games. Only a fraction of Android and iOS users want to play games on their devices.
