WakeMate had a disastrous launch where some of their USB chargers lit on fire. I think Gabriel doesn't want to deal with/feel he can help startups with these sort of problems that only come up when you're making a physical product.

"The Oscars make clear that there is only so much room at the top." I hate when people make this fallacy. It may be true to some extent for entertainment but there doesn't seem to be any limit to the number of businesses that can be created

"Desktop PCs will always outperform portable devices" That doesn't mean portable devices won't replace them. Laptops began to replace desktops a few years ago, the same way PCs replaced mainframes.

I think the author's is people make mistakes way too much more on the other end of the spectrum where they read news while deceiving themselves into thinking it's a productive activity. I know I'm guilty. It might be worth it to push the bo

Wow, the list of issues really highlights how much polish had to go into the product to get rid of edge cases. They care about stuff like: "The Galaxy Nexus takes a lot of time to connect on OS X because it likes to pretend that every image

Most users don't have an automated process that regularly performs full backups of their hard drive, so reinstalling the OS is painful. Hopefully software will solve this problem permanently for us in the near future. Until then it will be

Wow, it's great to see a bunch of very candid assessments of failure. You don't get a glimpse of failure very often often, especially for really early stage stuff, so it's hard to learn from the mistakes other people make. Appreciate the au

You might be shocked to hear this but the vast majority of businesses in the real world have such huge process issues that you'd diagnose most of the economy as full of "very sick companies that need life support".

You only see crash reports in the publisher console if the user reports the crash. In practice, users will send a report only a small fraction of the time, so that's where software that automatically does it all the time becomes very useful

A lot of companies are just sitting on the cash (most likely in a bank account). Interest rates are very low right now, so there's not much incentive to lend the money out.

I think not being able to guarantee that there always 7200 seconds between 11:00pm and 1:00am the next day could be a worse problem than having the sun rise at noon in a few thousand years.

It's not as if creating a webapp is a more certain path to success. I'm certain that the bottom 80% of webapps split less than 1% of the revenue. Is there any platform out there where you're guaranteed to make money just by showing up?
