Would you perhaps have preferred if they referred to it as "unprofessional" or "sloppy" instead alluding of monkeys? To me all those mean the same thing, except the latter is more flavorful and makes my eyes less likely

Uhhh... the above comment has a bunch of loose assertions that are not quite true, but with a enough truthiness that makes them hard to refute. So I'll point to my other comment for a more nuanced comparison of Markov models with tiny

The Markov property means that the next token is determined purely by the current token. Well, if it were a Hidden Markov Model, the next state would actually be determined by the current state, and the respective tokens would be a lossy

Just a thought... would it make sense to maintain a govt/central registry of copyright owners, and have an "official" means of contacting them, on which they have an SLA to respond (say 3 months) which might be part of the gr

Switching the default experience away from what people have grown used to over decades seems incredibly rude (despite what commercial software has normalized). The magic of emacs is infinite customizability. And it's quite easy for use

Splitting storage from retrieval is a powerful abstraction. You can then build retrieval indexes based on whatever property you desire by indexing it to amortize O(N) over many queries. Concretely, you could search by metadata (timestamp, g

Sometimes, the best way to learn about abstruse topics one has a passing curiosity in is to upvote what pops up on HN and hope that some nerd might drop by and comment with a simplified intuitive picture for plebs :-)

Yup, that’s basically the idea behind lenses, once you add a few more ergonomic niceties. The Haskell approach is to take any pattern, abstract it out into a library, and reuse instead of ever having to implement that plumbing again I.e. a

Do check out the links in my original comment above, which explain that the whole motivation behind all this (of which lenses are just a small part) is modularity . Modularity and composability are two sides of the same coin---being able t

Sure, but can you make that imperative program (with pointers and all) as modular/composable? That's the whole point -- lenses are not an end unto themselves; only a tool in service of that goal.

The difference doesn't matter when you have a shallow structure and can access fields directly and have a few lines of code. But field access does not compose easily if you have a nested hierarchy of objects. Your natural choice in the
