OK, I completely agree with this. That said, I'm not a nix guy, but to me, intuitively NixOS wins for this use case. It seems like you could either A. Use declarative OS installs across deployments B. Put your app into a container whic

I know this pain, and Docker absolutely makes sense for this use case, but I feel like we would both agree that this is a duct tape and bubble gum solution? Though a totally justifiable one

The best CI/CD pipeline I ever used was my first freelance deployment using Django. I didn't have a clue what I was doing and had to phone a friend. We set up a git post receive hook which built static files and restarted httpd on

I've read that in AS/400, everything is an object, rather than a file. Could you expand on that at all?

Navidrome is compatible with browser apps through a protocol the name of which eludes me at the moment The web interface also runs pretty flawlessly on mobile browser. I was actually shocked at how responsive it was.

Salesforce has a DX problem, putting the AI conversation aside, they probably should have developers so they know how to address this.

This would not be wildly out of place for a small to medium business running a business card website. On the high end, certainly, but not unheard of. But if it's also including the cost of all the CI and build steps for the entirety of

Bluefin looks super interesting! But I'm personally on a "less cloud everywhere" kick. I'm running OpenBSD as a hobby machine because I want to get better at real UNIX administration, which seems like a lost art. So my g

Nix seems really cool, and I'd like to explore it. I'm spending more time with OpenBSD right now as that approach just seems simpler. I use Artix and hyprland at home though. It's a better desktop experience, I think. The onl

I just watched the Rails 8 presentation, and was tremendously impressed. It made me wish I was a Rails dev. The philosophy of a framework designed for a lone developer to deploy extremely quickly is very cool.

There's also Omikub or any of the other "user friendly" distros. Hyprland is definitely a power user environment. And I think that's okay. There have been great "user friendly" distros for decades, and in the l

Have you tried using an LLM with Zig? When the training sets are on different language versions and there are breaking changes you may find it challenging. I actually enjoyed zig because it prevented me from using LLMs to code in this way

I haven’t done a ton with Rails professionally - but in my mind, if I was doing customer facing CRUD I would reach for rails, I think the deployment ecosystem and development experience is a bit better. Django, however, is wonderful for int

I have been there. Devops is never really fun. PaaS can take some of the pain away but quickly problems emerge with vendor lock in and you spend as much if not more time running the PaaS. The best setup I ever had for deployment was a git h

That makes sense! My personal feeling is that a web framework is not the right place in the stack to introduce typing. There’s also probably an argument to be made that part of the reason for Django’s “batteries included” success and wide a
