Hanging around the hacker dojo and spending a little bit of time at open source world, there are definitely people who think this is true, that all programming and applications are web apps and they're all going to move "into the cloud." I

Yeah, I'm not one to speak but the valley is living in a bubble, most likely as LA or Washington DC or NYC is. That has upsides and downsides, the downsides probably being really out of touch with what people outside of a 2 hour drive radi

Wow, that's the best explanation I've read. Very intuitive. Not to say I didn't know the original definition at some point but having such a concept tied to a concrete example makes it much easier to remember. It makes me wish that most ma

This is a troll, right? FYI not everyone who's smart wants to do computer science or a startup. I went to a gifted boarding school and it is my best educational experience so far including college. http://lsmsa.edu/ You have to apply to t

Almost nobody knows I'm a member. While my accomplishments are respectable from an objective standpoint, I joined to talk about my relative underachievement. Probably anyone outside of mensa thinks that's crazy. The people at local meeting

Seriously, where's the study? This is a nice example of game theory but let's not call it truth without some backing research, and all the anecdotal evidence in the world sounds nice but we are not exactly a representative group are we?

If the financial state is already having invested the money, I wonder if this is more or less motivating than a possibility of money later. The money paid is a sunk cost, so failing to follow up negatively impacts your experience and not t

About financial aid: the previous year my parents had made at least 80k, and that's generally how people judge your need. The year I picked schools one of them had lost their job and my family was at below sustainability levels. That being

I'm skeptical of claims without any research to back it up. But some thoughts (DISCLAIMER this is BS) An effect of having triangular keys instead of square keys on a soft keyboard is that each key has a clearly delineated boundary rather th

Part of the point of the paper is to show, yet again, that data that could be considered sufficiently anonymized by stripping IP addresses names etc. is not anonymous enough. Your credit card information identifies you, but you generally do

I get tired of technical environments online which assume there are no women present; or worse, that outright insult them. Slashdot and digg are particular bad about this, but you see some of that here as well. What message is that going
