I think defending against internal abuse is always an uphill task. The key thing is to have auditability - store records of who accessed what and when and make sure those records can't be tampered with. The knowledge that that data is being

Sadly, I think the article might be right about South Indian Hindus (I'm one too). Though very rare in modern urban areas (I think), it is definitely common in large parts of Tamil Nadu atleast. I have atleast one such couple in my extended

Jekyll is absolutely brilliant. There are a lot of static blog generation tools out there but this seems to work best for me. I dont use the github integration much (automatic publishing by pushing to github) but do store my site on a githu

That is totally false. There are no restrictions of any kind on the Microsoft network in general (apart from your standard virus/malware/firewall type stuff). I've synced code for my projects from sourceforge/google code/github often.

I'm actually impressed that they get away with running a site with so much traffic on such minimal hardware. Almost an argument against the cloud/NoSQL/scale-out trends :)

If it's Microsoft technology, people do try out things (it is hard to avoid it - dogfooding is a big part of MSFT culture. What they don't do as much is talk about it in public or share the code out (it typically lives on some internal site

I see a few Nick Bobics around. http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/et2002/view/e_spkr/1162 and http://www.gamasutra.com/view/authors/148/Nick_Bobic.php seem to refer to the same person. The Ottawa reference makes me suspect that this

This begs the question - what does the average YC startup do for healthcare? Do the co-founders find insurance on their own? Can a startup do 'employer-provided' insurance? What sort of work does it entail? I see some comments from tptacker

You beat me to it. My first reaction was "Wait - how is preserving Erlang's syntax but losing the VM a good thing?". I'd love projects going the other direction - a more modern syntax built on Erlang's rock-solid VM + OTP libraries.

I think some of these mistakes are understandable. For example, YouOS's home page says that it has been shut down and someone not familiar with the details would interpret this thread ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=260267 ) to mean t

I typically don't comment on threads on MSFT since I work there but I'll make an exception (disclaimer - my own opinion, etc, etc). I was there in person for this talk and quite disappointed. At first I thought it was because the talk was s

I've been using it on Cygwin since the beginning. Frankly, its fairly straight forward. The 'configure, make, make install' works out of the box and afterwards you do the same thing you'd do a *nix box. I've had no trouble at all.
