The core of AppleScript is a protocol defined as the OSA. This, as Camillo pointed out, is super close to REST and that suggests a possible evolution of the underlying idea as a glue system between "web apps" including desktop app

I was trying to remember that as well, but I think I now do - it's the "Internet suite", which has a CGI handler implementation.

AppleScript was originally conceived to be easy enough for non-professional programmers to read and write, with the history of Hypercard behind it. This is for those rare occasions when they needed to automate something that they do with

A lot of this is in the category of "not-entirely random guess" :) .. need to dig deeper to see this. Here is why I said what I did (and I did mean the former) -- My micro-benchmark is actually comparing the struct-based code in S

Here are median values based on a few trial runs with -Os (but I'm still building and running for MacOSX only). Int/int : Swift = 2.7s, ObjC = 3.4s (Swift is 25% faster) Int64/int64_t : Swift = ObjC = 2.7s (indistinguishable)

I think the optimizations for both need to be looked into carefully. For the following micro benchmark, Swift came in 1.5x slower than the C version. Both were built in Release mode with "-O3", and both with "Debug" chec

The `enum` part of the language seems to be Haskellish algebraic types - like you can have enum "cases" with parameters in addition to just named enumerations .. and these enums can have methods. Cool!

The thing is a scribble doc is not markup. It is code. (This is one of the beautiful things about lisp.) So if you want the "syntax", all you need to know is this - @animal[bowow "meow"]{Various sounds animals make

I quite like the generality of scribble syntax [1]. It is in the spirit of LaTeX, but is programmable in racket/scheme. The downside is that it is implemented pretty much for the purpose of writing racket documentation, with little

Right at the end after the qc delivers the pizza and takes off, the shot pretends to be from a camera on the qc itself, but the shadow of the qc remains fixed size and sharpness on the terrace. Looked doctored to me.
