I'm surprised at the negativity on this on a startup accelerator's site where "a small chance of success" - Gimli style - means game on. At my org, we've had one of these round 3 candidates give a talk about it and

In some ways at least, you can look at data science / ML work as an extreme form of TDD and closer to it in spirit than most proselytizing I've come across. In another great example, Peter Norvig does way more TDD for his Sudoku

I cannot proceed to reading the article because I refuse to accept fb's cookie policy that doesn't seem to give a way to read the content without accepting a cookie from them.

(shameless plug) The state machine approach is one I used in an old sweetjs library called cspjs[1] which implemented async tasks into JavaScript well before async/await. I still think there are some good ideas left there - especially

Sounds interesting. Btw SAOL (structured audio orchestration language) was proposed as part of the mpeg7 initiative, which is itself quite long dead. SAOL was based on csound concepts. Back then, we had "csound cards" that ran cso

Is SOUL intentionally made to sound like SAOL? I haven't watched the video and will do. But the dominant problem with audio programming languages has been expressivity. Things like code up single sample feedback loops (they normally ar

Been exploring this idea in the app development context for a while now. I wished PNaCl had filled this role, but now think WebAssembly may take up this space instead as it has similar performance characteristics. The attraction of both the

Always replace "intuitive" with "familiar" and you get an insight into what the person is talking about. So the task is to explain Euler's equation in terms of what you're already familiar with. Hmmm. [1] Theor

Quite a few old thinkers have thought up models for that kind of prediction we do. Ex: Piaget. Gary Drescher's book "made up minds" presents his PhD work building a simulated environment and a robot in it that builds concepts

Why are Haskell type classes identified as non compositional in this post when interfaces are talked about as necessary for compositionality?

The use case seems to overlap with noms dB - https://github.com/attic-labs/noms Noms doesn't have the appeal of SQL, but it is versioned and forkable and strongly typed data.

One way to deal with it is to understand why the mess in the first place. You may find reasons to forgive the mess. If you're looking at a startup that had to try a lot of things perhaps (and when the team was junior) hitting on the wo

Why would a dual "non commercial" and "commercial" license not solve the problem this is claiming to address. Many OSS projects do this now. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be compensated for one's work, but

One way to think about interface power is in terms of thresholds and ceilings. CLIs are powerful with a somewhat high threshold and high ceiling. In the attempt to lower the threshold, most UIs and OSes significantly lower the ceiling too.
