I live in South India and I find Finnish easy to my ears (I speak Tamil) due to the double consonants and double vowels that Tamil shares. In fact a Finnish friend of my dad's learnt Tamil via remote from one of our poets .. to get pro

One of the arguments presented in the article is that the program would alter the gene pool by 1% only. I'm curious where the 1% comes from and why something that might feel "small" in another context should also apply here.

I ask myself two questions - 1. Is this paper of interest to me? 2. How will I assimilate the knowledge of this paper into my existing framework? For (1), the title+abstract helps a lot. Followed by the conclusion, which can indicate whethe

I suppose I should've just said "it isn't worth using "lambda" to mean a function". Too many comments latched on to "archaic" instead of the intended point.

There is enough justice done to the term in Haskell. Won't blame you for it. But other languages aren't on the same footing.

The fact that "lambda" came from "lambda calculus" is of such little relevance to mainstream programming today that we don't need to be reminded of it every time we want to write an "anonymous function". I

One suggestion - it isn't worth using the archaic "lambda" to mean a function. You could use "function" or some abbreviation of it like "fn" or "fun".

It was indeed. It was also nerve-racking in many ways. We were trying to do GPU-based automatic video editing at a time when the Microsoft OSes were evolving rapidly, so were the NVidia and other drivers, and OpenGL itself .. with varied su

Not clear about the mechanics on reading the site, but it reminded me of AgentSheets by Alexander Repenning ( https://agentsheets.com/ ). It was 2d before "graduating" to "agent cubes".

Absolutely this! Another way I express this to my colleagues is to consider that Einstein (and others) took fifteen years to develop the relativity theories that did not require any new theoretical or experimental input. All of that is typi
