That may be the fault of the UEFI implementation. Many are terrible - especially from the big OEMs. I keep rEFInd as my boot manager and let it deal with the rest. I also find a way to recover rEFInd if an OS sets its own bootloader as defa

Better yet, ask the school to provide a Chromebook if they want to spy on and control it. The owner should have the ultimate authority on what the device does - so the school should spend money for the power they demand.

> I don't understand, this sounds like an issue with the account, not with the Chromebook. While it does sound like an issue with the account, the unusual part is that Chromebook hands over the control of a device you own to someone

I believe that RBAC may be possible, though I've never tried it. However, I have used TLS client certificate to get access equivalent to LXD group as a normal user. I've tried it using lxc command and python script.

That is unusual for a modern system that uses UEFI. The windows bootloader may set itself as the default EFI program, but other bootloaders should remain in the EFI partition. It's just a matter of changing the default back to Linux bo

Most of these projects - ReactOS, Haiku and even Hurd badly needs a 1.0 release. That would get them enough developer attention to achieve their more ambitious goals faster. They should aim for simple bare-metal booting reliably on 1.0. Get

That wouldn't make the risk acceptable - only easy to get away with, doesn't it? Just imagine if an exhausted engineer over speeds on a curve and detail the train onto a suburb or industrial area.

Looks like the victims of a communication bubble. Early reports of radiation spike at Chernobyl indicated that it may be due to disturbances to top soil by the invasion force.

That should come under work safety laws, especially for the type of job they do. Like the lady said - that sort of long term fatigue is worse than getting drunk above the legal limit. I have personal experience. Situational awareness and ju

Seems it's in Mariupol. While this loss is regrettable, Mariupol is very likely a huge kill zone, judging by the footage from there. The fact is that most of us are desensitized to that scale of tragedy and suffering.

Competing with those proprietary mcad will take a much better CAD kernel. FreeCAD uses OpenCASCADE. It's going to take a lot of time and effort to create a new one. There are a few projects around. I hope that one of them will catch on

There are other options. You can use something like rclone to make multiple copies across cloud storage providers. You could also rent some cheap cloud storage like Backblaze B2 and use a backup software like restic.

Interestingly, swastika has a similar history. The word means 'symbolizing well being' in Sanskrit. It still has the same meaning in Indic religions. Apparently, it had a similar meaning in Europe too, until the Nazis hijacked it

Dashboard has been around for a while. It helped me back when I learned GDB for the first time. Though you still have to learn the GDB commands, dashboard makes it a more visual experience. GDB felt clearer and more modern with it. It'

I faced the same problems with some of RH's other software. It felt like they make software needlessly complicated and then hide the troubleshooting information behind paywalls in the hopes of landing support contracts.

The people you should be blaming are the ones who decide the web standards. The browsers are bloated and updated frequently because the web standards are bloated and updated frequently. That also killed off many alternative implementations.

Snap wouldn't be facing such a big backlash if it solved those problems without adding a whole lot of others. Even worse, they completely ignore better alternatives that exist.

The worst part is that they sabotage their good software by insisting on these bad solutions. LXD and MicroK8s for example, are distributed only as snaps - not even tarballs. LXD is actually a great software. But it's available as nati
