They still are sometimes. Whenever you have a CTE which is referenced more than once, to be specific.

This is a great idea if you disable materialization (which the author of this post does not mention). Yes, materialization is fine for small hardcoded values in the post, but for most other lookup tables, it's definitely not fine. For

Lisp shines with macros. I like to use macros to add new static checks to the code For ex I wrote about one such check here https://tech.perpetua.io/2022/01/generating-sqlite-bindings-... This macro checks SQLite

Thanks, it is important for people to know this. In this article 5 tables are pulled into CTEs which aren’t marked as not materialized. It wasn’t the point of the example, but the default is scary, leading to disabling all indexes for the q

CTEs considered harmful. This query will run nornally as long as those CTEs stay unmaterialized. But all you need is a single intermediate CTE and due to the “two+ references cause CTE materializations” rule in Postgres, the query will star

Not always. I for one am just not upgrading at all due to costs. It would be a lot better to make $500 profit for each of the 100k people buying your product than $1000 profit for each of the 20k buying.

I just saw that estimate for atoms in an average human body is on the order of 10^27. I didn’t expect that the whole body is 100,000x atoms compared to the eye. By weight (68kg/28g) the body is only about 2500x the size of an eye.
