Sorry to tell you that there are valid attacks against the PINSentry used by Barclays - see http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/02/26/bank_reader_insecuri... . I don't know of any actual breaches though.

I expect they reverse the rise if you are doing well. After all, they don't _want_ to take over your McDonald's - they want you to run it right. But I don't know this for certain.

Not quite the same, but this fifty-page document is what they use every six months to check up on every franchise. Fun fact: if you fail this, your franchise fee to McDonald's Inc goes up. If you keep failing, your fee keeps rising and even

There's a disclosure process; if you're concerned someone might in future define your project as relevant, you submit a description of what you're doing and the company has a limited time to claim the project is indeed relevant - if it does

We spent some solid time (and lawyer fees) getting this right, after inheriting a draconian agreement from our long-ago corporate parent. Now you own anything you do on your own time, so long as isn't directly relevant to our business. By t

http://www.youdevise.com/careers is now working - I can't seem to edit the parent comment, so hope this helps those who are interested (or just email me - address in my profile).

Argh, site attacked by name-change gremlins. Try our job adverts at StackOverflow - http://careers.stackoverflow.com/jobs/employer/youDevise - while we say soothing words to the web server. Many apologies.

Sounds pretty dire Ron. There are places in the finance industry where developers do follow good practises, so don't give up hope! If you'd ever like to chat about how these things could be better, get in touch (email in profile).

Well, it still helps - you can OCR a book file yourself, even if you can't see; just a few clicks and then go do something more interesting. Scanning your own book is possible, but requires sitting there throughout. Edit: http://1dollarsca

OK, hope my list helped. We are technology-neutral, and regularly hire (for example) C# or Python developers and teach them Java, so don't let unfamiliarity with any particular language stop you considering us.

Not sure what you mean. Java is one of the main languages we use, along with Scala, Groovy, and JavaScript.

If we could make it work (and I recognise the problems other commenters have noted with this particular implementation) then this would be a big benefit for blind people, for whom CAPTCHAs aren't just inconvenient but impossible. I'm sure

At youDevise ( https://dev.youdevise.com ) we have a similar policy - works great to encourage side projects and attract the kind of developer who likes doing them.

This would be super. I always want to post in these threads (because youDevise is always hiring great hackers) and have trouble finding them reliably. Thanks for suggesting this!
