Ummm the article isn't very clear. It says the damage was estimated at 30 million. It says IBM paid something. It didn't explicitly say IBM paid $30 million.

Frankly the article is whiney and doesn't provide much of a case except, "I don't like it, and strings are bad."

It's weird that there's no general law covering this in America. In Australia we have the Australian Consumer Law which covers basics like, "It has to do/be/contain what it says it does," otherwise you get a re

1) Always assume that you are being lied to. 2) Gather evidence that can be used to prove whether claims are true or not. 3) Make your purchasing decision. If you think about it this is not that crazy. When you buy one of these products fro

The article as a whole is quite sensationalist. Once people have access to your underlying device - what exactly do you think is going to happen? "Oh but if you disconnected your microphone then think again". How many bloody peopl

I've had a metallic blue electric guitar for ten years now. Bought so many beginner materials and they're fucking awful. I can't understand jack shit. The closest I got to sticking to anything were the eMedia programs, at lea

Definitely stuffed my opinion of them. I thought they were for the people and made good decisions. Nope - corporate suits - and they give us a response which doesn't even make logical sense. Do they think we're idiots?

I'm on a roster 1 week on 2 weeks off and so it becomes very bearable given proper resources (i.e. a laptop and 3G/4G dongle). You throw it in your car boot and forget about it. You might get a call but unless you're out clif

I also feel like the "on call" thing is oversold a little. I work in operations and I'm on call. Some months I hear nothing, some weeks everything goes wrong, but on average I get about one call a month. That's not so ba

GitLab and GitHub are both pretty active on HN. I look forward to their response - where is it already?! I'm especially disappointed by GL. GH is already too big to care about such things.

Security will be awful. I'm an SS DBA. For one they seem to use the single known account (sa) which we disable EVERYWHERE because it's the first biggest known most common target of attack. In fact it's dangerous to use becaus

I have a 5 year old Samsung fridge also. It's a piece of shit - since Day 1 the freezer makes ice and everything else stink of chemicals. Even after numerous air-outs, cleans, baking soda, the works. I can't wait until it dies. Fu

It's just FUD. This whole thing is a boorish marketing exercise about throwing money about and which will go nowhere. That's why Apple is out. It doesn't waste it's money.
