IIRC, the mods will periodically boost interesting links that didn’t get very far when originally submitted back up. I’d guess that’s it?

Does that still hold for the reMarkable 2?

Is this likely to help lower the cost of SSDs in the ~1TB range? After watching the price of 1TB drop from the stratosphere to $100, I'd love to see them make it down towards $75...

Doubt Taiwan is unhappy about that. The more TSMC provides the world with compute, the more incentive the US and other countries have to keep the island out of China’s hands.

Wish someone would do teardowns/testing of these cables/chargers on a wide basis (or that I had the skills to do it myself). I've seen a few people doing such things for computer PSUs, multimeters, and the like, but not for c

I mean, at least in the US, you can buy utter crap in the store at crazy prices. Plenty of stuff that just barely hits the regulatory requirements but doesn't do any good engineering work beyond that.

I generally agree, but with charging especially it seems to be hard to figure out what exactly "name brand" means. Obviously you've got companies like Anker that've been around for a good while, but, in my opinion at lea

Same here. Seems like there's a subreddit for just about everything (for instance, I consulted r/backpacks recently). Good advice, but unreliable in terms of finding an active community.

One thing I'll tack onto this in case someone with the right knowledge comes by: anyone know a site for good reviews of charging accessories? We ask a lot of our chargers these days (e.g. 100w USB-C PD), and the price-quality curve see

My (highly imperfect) solution to that problem is usually to go find the niche internet forum/subreddit for whatever thing I'm looking to buy and try to see what people there are interested in in my price range. I'm sure I en

IIRC Guy Fieri did a Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives episode with a guy who was using aquafaba in making vegan deli "meats" with textures pretty darn close to the real thing. There's some really awesome wizardry going on in vega

Far-fetched projects like the ones discussed in the article have always piqued my imagination. As the article semi-mentions, we may at some point be forced into geoengineering and other "megascale" projects (see [0] for supercondu

Wonder if there's a chance some of the router projects and Pine64 could collaborate somehow to make a fully open router. Pine64 seems to be quickly developing some production chops and the various router projects also seem to be doing

As annoying as it is, especially when docks/hubs come into play, part of me feels like having one solution that at least semi-works for maybe 80-90% of use cases is worth having to debug silly issues sometimes. Have a feeling we'l

Hopefully we'll see more Thunderbolt 4 silicon from different manufacturers as USB4 rolls out. Seems like we'll probably see that over the next year or two if it's going to happen.

The popup cards when you mouse over an internal link that they added semi-recently are an awesome addition, though. Great melding of the old interface with a highly useful newer feature, in my opinion.

Even more annoyingly, if you get fed up with their crappy hardware and get your own, any and all future flakiness will be attributed by ISP support to using nonstandard hardware.

I would assume something like one of the RTOSes like what's listed for the PineTime? Seems like it'd be easier to get power consumption low and keep the watch speedy that way, then just interface with a phone, etc., over bluetooth

Just in the last few weeks, I’ve had two instances where I let Windows update and a whole bunch of system stuff (including Windows Update itself, once) proceeded to break, even through a few reboots. Anecdote, of course, and theoretically I

IIRC, the conclusion at the time was that that particular image was taken by an NRO KH-11 satellite - roughly equivalent to a Hubble Space Telescope pointed at earth and definitely not SAR.

One thing to note, they're still in the early stages of supporting AVM2/ActionScript 3.0 [0], so if you've got a pile of newish .swf's you'd like to try, they may not work yet. [0] https://github.com/

Not at all sure, but some of the Falcon 9/Heavy failures seem to suggest that SpaceX's thinking on landing is "don't give up, fly it all the way to the ground," when there's an issue. Especially with the fact t
