Connection sharing and terminal multiplexers aren't mutually exclusive. Let's say that in order to get to 4-5 hosts (which you run screen on) you have to jump through a certain SSH bastion host which you specify using the ProxyCommand direc

The box is still my property, even though it is in somebody else's data center. My ISP has physical access, so it's not like it's uber secure, but there are a comforting number of hoops that they'd need to jump through to grovel through my

It's not entirely painless, but I do it anyway because I can. A third party is never going to have access to my personal email, it's just not going to happen.

Wow, I had no idea the ads were so huge and invasive. It made me wonder how much Ralph Lauren spent to have their ads take what seemed to be over 50% of the on-screen real estate.

This seemed fishy to me, I did some digging and I found a posting on the zodiackillerfacts.com forums which debunks this forced "solution". It turns out that the 340 area code was not used for the Virgin Islands until 1997, which to me seem

Perhaps it's not that different than how charismatic folks routinely get people to help them. I realize it's supposed to come off as a funny piece that reads like an online dating profile, but it does feel like pandering to me. I guess I

I wasn't offended per se, but it did make me think a bit about sexual politics in the workplace. I know my technical soul mate is out there somewhere – it’s just a process of kissing enough geeky frogs to get to the geeky prince charming i

MySQL is licensed under the GPL, and that isn't going to change. Oracle can't kill MySQL, nor can they force you to pay for it. I think your fears are unfounded.

Mark didn't mention this in his article, but writes to the inode are only serialized in jfs/ext(2|3|4) if you are using direct I/O (i.e O_DIRECT) which for performance reasons MySQL ibdata files often are. This is why this problem does not

Some MySQL vs PG tests done by Domas (of Facebook & Wikipedia fame) show some interesting differences between MySQL and PG for an in-memory read only test. I don't think there are any 50x differences though. http://dom.as/2010/11/08/r

Using innodb o_direct will prevent linux from swapping out the mysql process. This is close, but not exactly true. Linux is loathe to discard buffer cache (even with swappiness at zero) it will often choose to swap out MySQL code/data in

Vertical splitting screen has. Software architecture, perceived code quality, and BSD license are not features. I'm glad that there is competition in this space, but you tmux evangelists need to realize that there is a lot of work that nee

You're confusing InnoDB with MyISAM. InnoDB does redo log recovery like all grown up databases. MyISAM requires a lengthy fsck type operation.
