I find that "out the door within the hour" extraordinarily unprofessional. I wouldn't want to work in a situation where people think throwing someone out on their ass without collecting documentation, checking up on projects, and generally

Why is it so important to you that Google is evil and Apple is good? That's why Apple is like Big Brother. Fanatical, unreasoning devotion is a key component of Orwell's dystopia. Google doesn't have that.

Suffrage only passed as a result of a curious alliance between hard-left socialist feminist types and hard-right temperance/religious purity movements. The left's goal is obvious. For the right the fantastic thing was that most women were a

No, in the perfectly valid analogy, we are Winston Smith, Apple is Big Brother. Though it also might be argued that in this analogy you are O'Brien.

The people comparing Apple's approval process to 1984 are clearly drawing parallels with the torture scenes where the protagonist is ultimately convinced that he shouldn't have done what he did and Big Brother is ultimately right - which so

My Motorola Droid's touchscreen can't match the iPhone, but I've played with a few display models, and the Droid X among others are neck-and-neck. However, I have to say that improving hardware on my Droid would be a waste of money without

I think the focus on keypads is a mistake. I'd love a phone roughly like the OP's phone, except with a full range of characters and a largish keyboard. I don't think there's a lot of reason the phone needs to be so small either. I would bet

Hostgator's nonstandard port for hosting is my biggest complaint about their service, especially because I cannot set up key-based authentication, and I have to ad -e 'ssh -p 2222' to my rsync statements. But if I'm being honest, back when

OT: That site has a beautifully fluid layout. It's a wonderful change from mobile layouts like WordPress.com's mobile blog layout that absolutely refuses to let you view text at anything larger than 'tiny' on the Droid. Though I think this

Not quite. If I'm, for example, naked in front of my computer, a phone call is not as big a problem as someone at my door. Especially if there are windows next to my door and the only path to my clothes goes in front of the door. (Just spea

What if this spreads? It seems pretty clear that they've proved that you can region lock and no one will care. Many oppressive world governments like Iran and China would love it if the Internet itself was segmented in this manner. And the

The real problem with 3D video is that it requires a lot of production work to get right. You can't just record in 3D and expect it to work. You have to carefully manage focal length. And when it comes right down to it, it only adds things

Which is which? I'm not going to beat a dead horse, you can look at my comments in the other thread for my thoughts on StarCraft itself, but I'm going to speak generally on RTS: I look at RTS as a sort of dance that eventually becomes a con

Except the iPhone isn't as worrisome as StarCraft to me. Ultimately, the iPhone's problems are going to force Apple to open up, because they are decreasing the quality of the iPhone ecosystem. And even if it doesn't, the iPhone platform is

I don't live in SF. The tournament has a regional bias on multiple levels. Not that I take this event incredibly seriously, but I do consider Activision's region locking deeply offensive, as someone with dear friends on far-flung continents

It's interesting that they chose to use a region-locked game. Alone it's all well and good to have an event like this in SF, but at least use a more open medium. (I mean, even a weakly open medium like Age of Empires III or something.) I fe

Or simply install NoScript, and worry about whitelists, not blacklists. I can get at the content there with no trouble, and don't have to worry about any of those toolbars.
