So, it is worth bringing up: GR doesn't require global conservation of momentum or energy.[0,1] I'm not saying anything about the experiment, but I think your statement that "conservation of momentum is more deeply embedded.

Sure, but then we aren't in a situation where growth of wages isn't keeping pace with GDP, we are in a situation where healthcare cost increases are outpacing GDP. They are two different problems.

I don't know, the sport of it, rather than the engineering of it, is now more important. Instead of the company with the most money, the driver skill is more important this round.

This article is horrible. The paper is here: http://www.opticsinfobase.org/oe/abstract.cfm?URI=oe-22-21-2... First off, the reason you want light for transmission on chips isn't because it is "faster",

It can't bend light without loss... It actually is pretty lossy (the paper references an attenuation of 270 cm^-1, or 1/e loss per 270 cm.)

One reason is because mirrors (freespace optics in general), are limited in how narrowly confined the beam can be. Generally speaking, waveguides can have cross sectional area of ~ λ^2 or less, while freespace optics can only get below tha

by what measure? 100lb of helium is exactly the same by weight as a 100lb of propane. By volume, in a cylinder, it is approximately the same (I believe). By number of atoms, it is much more (a factor of 10 or so).
