RDBMS constraints are oversold usually. For instance it is usually the case that things like foreign-key constraints are avoided in production because they cause performance and maintenance nightmares. Widely-used constraints like UNIQUE ar

Even there you'll see the same: micros in SQLite vs millis for PostgreSQL. PostgreSQL is simply not the right choice if you want in-process speeds.

That's ignoring the specific use case of TFA though, which is not "I'm setting out to build something for my bigcorp to scale infinitely" but "I built a little tool that ended up handling more than I thought it woul

How is 3 seconds slow? Gmail web client takes more than three seconds these days. Thunderbird performance has never been an issue for me, except for one issue where it occasionally starts chewing CPU when syncing my monster inbox. This issu

Perhaps they were born of necessity but now they are a strictly better solution for computing on members than any other solution or language feature. Record dot syntax is very unappealing. Would way prefer automatic lenses, or just some pri

We actually have this rule in our company style guide. We do allow '.=' and '.%' (MonadState ops) because they fit elegantly into 'do' contexts.

Thanks to both you and KMail team. This merger makes tons of sense as both clients made it through some dark years and have both come out on top with amazing improvements. I'm really excited to see what the combined team delivers!

Agree. TIL that there was this "revolt" against KMail's UI change. It actually made KMail usable with e.g. 5000 mail entries in a folder, whereas before 500 could cause it to lag on scrolling and be unusable at 1000.

That's really strange. I think the UX improvements were fantastic. Given that KMail is really the only true open-source non-janky Android email client it's incredible to me that people can be so uncharitable. With the UX changes c

Calling any hedge fund "high performing" is pretty meaningless, as once they've figured out their core trade their main job is to 1) keep the core trade secret, 2) try to find some other bet, 3) try to trade bigger/faste
