It's funny to hear things like projects I saw start, turn 25. At that time, essentially nothing in consumer computing was 25, so 25 sounds absolutely ancient, like hearing about a 15,000 year old temple. So hearing about a project I sa

Yes, app developers should be able to say that (and to say “pay on our website”). The gag order on app developers is wrong and should be illegal.

My guess is that this is a technical error. Daniel Ek seems to know that yielding an inch to these whiners never yields anything but more whining.

I have zero problems with the mobile phone ecosystem that I want regulation to solve. I don't want the government to force USB-C charging onto iPhones, I prefer Lightning. I don't mind paying higher prices for Apple subscription

I bought a pair of AirPods Pro and I loved how they sounded but hated how they made me look, because my skin is very dark and the little white things stood out like sore thumbs on Zoom calls. I returned them for the Jabra Elite 85t which ar

Why? I hope this isn't a critique of the form "Why does Dropbox have 3,000 employees, I could build it in a weekend." There are a lot of costs to producing an issue of Nature.

by spoonjim 5y ago
This seems like a fair price. If there are 30 articles in an issue of Nature that’s 360,000 per issue assuming everyone eventually publishes open access and subscriptions go to zero. That seems like a very reasonable cost for editing etc.

It’s not realistic because tech companies have conditioned us into that expectation. My dad has a 40 year old high end sound system which works flawlessly. Why can’t Google maintain some servers and push some fixes for 20 years?

It’s really funny to see the battle about remote pay equality playing out between US states — it’s like watching a group of rabbits arguing over some carrots right before a lion walks in and eats all of them. The Lion being the world’s 6.8

Kind of sucks that if you build any really successful app on iOS then Apple will come in and force their way into your market and have deep analytics on your own app when doing so. Spotify->Apple Music, Netflix -> Apple TV+, Peloton-&
